Job description

The British Academy of Garden Design is a leading provider of quality Garden Design distance learning and classroom-based courses. Students are provided with a variety of media through which they can attend the courses:

  • Online learning environment and distance learning
  • Blended learning classroom-based options

For the February 2026 intake, we will be running classes and we are currently recruiting suitable candidates for the role of classroom tutor(s). Our classes are held every second Saturday from 9.30am to 4.30pm (12 Saturday dates) or one weekday evening per week (24 evening dates) from 6.30pm to 9pm and therefore it will suit candidates who want to work around other full-time commitments. This role would be ideal for an experienced Landscaper or Garden Designer looking to gain tutoring experience.

This is a freelance position.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide support, guidance and tuition to students, drawing on relevant industry and professional experience, in an online environment as well as in a classroom setting
  • Plan and deliver lessons in workshops and classroom environments (presentation provided)
  • Develop students' creativity and problem-solving skills through well written assessment feedback
  • Communicate and engage with students through email and online forums
  • Engage with the Senior Academic Operations Manager and Academic Team to ensure that course content is up to date and relevant

Requirements:

  • A degree / or other relevant qualification in Garden/Landscape Design, Horticulture or Landscaping from a recognised academic institution
  • Relative industry experience with a credible portfolio
  • Lecturing experience or a training qualification would be an advantage
  • Strong communication and computer skills.
  • Excellent spoken and written English is essential
  • The ideal candidate should be able to work on their own initiative and be willing to commit to two Saturdays per month lecturing. Evening lecturing also available.
