The post holder will work at the University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust as an Education Lead Radiographer. They will work across all sites and all radiography disciplines, to provide clinical expertise, pastoral support and serve as a role model for all Imaging staff and trainees. They must be prepared to undertake any formal study or informal training required to fulfil the needs of the post, including self-study and demonstrable CPD.

The post holder will lead a multidisciplinary team where great importance is placed on communication and relationships. They will be expected to maintain and extend good working relationships with all departments and personnel within UHNM and with educational establishments, to influence the future provision of clinical education. They will be required to ensure students & apprentices receive a robust and appropriate clinical placement throughout their training and that they are assessed in a timely manner.

The post holder will be able to work independently and will be responsible for developing Imaging-wide education, apprenticeships and a robust preceptorship programme, working closely with Superintendent Radiographers, and liaising with placement universities to ensure students & apprentices are represented in policy development and a high standard of placement quality is achieved.

  • To lead on the creation and delivery of regular education and CPD for all Imaging staff (students, apprentices, radiographers & radiology registrars).
  • To provide clinical expertise and knowledge, provide pastoral support and serve as a role model for all trainees placed at UHNM for their clinical training.
  • To work with the Trust to support local and regional workforce plans to increase placement capacity and workforce supply.
  • To link with external systems and organisations to coordinate diagnostics training plans and report back outlining utilisation of funding streams e.g. NHS England, Staffs & S-O-T Integrated Care System, Midlands Imaging Training Academy.
  • To work with the Trust to develop clear imaging career pathways via multiple training routes and advise on staff professional development and career progression from B2- B8.
  • To support the development of the apprenticeship programmes at all levels within the imaging department to open up training opportunities to a wider catchment group.
  • To develop and review the Imaging preceptorship programme to support the transition from student to qualified practitioner building resilience and professional competence and confidence.
  • To provide and facilitate staff professional development in leadership and clinical skills.
  • To lead in accurately completing and maintaining all auditable documentation including the student placement data return.
