We have fantastic opportunities to begin a Modern Apprenticeship across Scotland.

Applicants from any location are welcome. If successful in the interview process and no local nursery is currently recruiting, we'll proactively reach out to nurseries on your behalf to secure a suitable placement.

Working with children is a career like no other. You'll have the opportunity to shape young minds, spark creativity, and support learning that will last a lifetime. By completing a Modern Apprenticeship, you'll gain the skills and knowledge needed to become a qualified Childcare Practitioner.

As an apprentice, you'll support senior practitioners and train under the guidance of the nursery manager.

A typical day may include:

  • Setting up the playroom for a fun-filled day of learning
  • Delivering planned activities aligned with the Curriculum for Excellence
  • Ensuring children's safety and wellbeing throughout the day
  • Supporting with snacks, lunch, and dinner
  • Playing outdoors in all weather

The Modern Apprenticeship takes around 12 months to complete and leads to an SVQ Level 3 qualification in Social Services (Children and Young People). This is a work-based qualification, and once completed, you'll be recognised as a fully qualified Childcare Practitioner. You'll be employed by the nursery, while L&G Learning supports you through your training journey.

We're looking for candidates who show enthusiasm for the childcare sector and ideally have some relatable experience. Having at least one National 5 in English is preferred, although we're happy to consider applicants who may not meet this requirement but show genuine interest and potential.

Please note: This opportunity is funded by Skills Development Scotland and full funding is available to candidates aged 16–19.
