Job Description
Driving a STGO HGV moving all types of different loads with different trailer configurations across the UK. The loads can be heavy, long or wide and drivers should adhere to all the relevant legislation regarding drivers' hours, STGO, embargoes etc.
Key responsibilities
- To drive in a safe and efficient manner, obeying all and any legislation that applies to the operation being performed.
- To make sure all vehicles and trailers being operated are fit for purpose and roadworthy.
- To operate in line with all safe systems of work required for all operations and as per Allely's policies.
- To assist in loading and unloading the trailer and be responsible for all load securing before any goods are transported.
- To liaise and assist with Allelys on site staff if required,
- To be team leader on all two man operations involving an escort driver taking care to avoid all obstacles and not to damage any equipment or property.
- To assist in keeping the vehicle and trailer clean and tidy both inside and outside.
- To check the condition of all chains, tighteners, straps and other securing equipment, and to report any defects immediately to the transport office and/or garage.
- To use the radios which are provided to assist with the job in order to communicate.
- To conduct the role within as directed by the company and within the guidelines outlined within the group rules and policies, with particular attention to the drivers rules.

Additional Responsibilities
- To perform other duties at certain times when required, and as directed by the Transport Manager. All additional responsibilities listed are subject to having received the correct training and holding valid certificates where applicable.
- Assisting with building trailers, tidying equipment, preparing equipment such as timbers, chains, straps and spill kits. Duties could also include cleaning and tidying, operating a forklift moving and positioning of stools and general lifting and carrying.
- Ramp building- ramp building is a two man operation required for the transport of rail stock.

Skills & Qualifications Required
- Full Driving licence – HGV CE.
- CPC qualification card.
- FLT Qualification an advantage.
Role specifics
- Own vehicle made available.
- The work has no set daily hours and no set weekly days, it is flexible to the business needs
- It is not a structured day, start and end times are flexible and will change dependent upon the job. You must be prepared and self sufficient.
- Short notice requests to work and/ or make changes to a job or the daily planned schedule of work will occur.
- Progression and responsibility will be dependent on how you progress over the agreed timescales.
Rates of pay
- Day rate (Monday to Friday) – £170 per day.
- Weekend rate (Saturday/Saturday) – £185 per day.
- Night out allowance – £26.
- Bonus percentage – 10% above £1000 on weekdays. 10% on weekends, no £ cap.
Weekly pay is structured as follows
A daily rate is paid for all days worked; a percentage of the vehicle earnings is also applied on a weekly bases along with a night out allowance and meal allowance.
