Housekeeping Assistant

Mill on the Brue, established in 1982, is a residential activity centre offering a variety of activities to school children and adults. We have a small, friendly Housekeeping team and a diverse wider team.

We are looking for a dedicated and reliable Housekeeper to join our team. We welcome groups of all ages for outdoor learning and we need someone like you to help keep everything clean, safe and homely.

The work can be fast paced, very busy, and due to the hilly nature of the site, involves lots of stairs, the ability to cope with this on a daily basis is essential. Hours will vary according to business needs so candidates need to be flexible and prepared to work occasional evenings and weekends.

We have 120 beds over three accommodation blocks with an additional 60 camping beds from May until September. We work mainly with primary schools and during the summer have children visiting for summer camps.

Applicants should have experience of working in a small close-knit team, ability to problem solve, work to a tight schedule and be able to work to the high standards of housekeeping Mill on the Brue expects. We are looking for someone with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.

Duties will include laundry, bedroom changeovers, cleaning of bathrooms, cleaning of all public areas and offices.

We do not use chemicals anywhere on site.

Mill on the Brue is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young adults and expects staff and volunteers to share that commitment. An enhanced disclosure barring check will be sought in relation to the successful applicant for this post. This will be shared with Personnel and may also be shared with the Directors.

Hours: 16 hours per week, Mon, Wed and Fri. Can be flexible with term-time only working if required.

Holiday: 28 days pro rata

Main purpose of post:

To assist the Head Housekeeper in maintaining a consistently high standard of cleanliness around our Activity Centre and working front of house during mealtimes to ensure an efficient and organised service.

Key Tasks:

Cleaning

  1. Cleaning of the Centre including: bedrooms and bathrooms, scullery, hallways, offices, indoor toilets, campsite, tents, outside showers and toilets

  2. Making beds (incl. bunk beds), washing, hanging and sorting laundry, washing and storing of lost property

  3. Tidying the storeroom in the Longhouse

Customer Care

  1. Ensure our guests are cared for during their stay

2.Ensure that feedback from customers is considered and, where applicable, acted upon

Health and Safety

  1. You will be expected to complete a COSSH and a Food, Health and Hygiene course.

Person Specification

Essential

· Commitment to delivering a high standard of customer service

· Excellent communication skills

· Ability to build strong working relationships

· Ability to work flexible shift patterns including occasional weekends

· 'Can do' attitude to problem solving

· Able to work on a multi-level site

· Must like children and young people

Desirable

· Experience of housekeeping in a similar setting

· Level 1 qualification in COSSH and Food, Health and Hygiene

· Driver with valid, current driving license

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: £10.00-£12.21 per hour
