The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is an executive non-departmental public body of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
Driven by government's aim for clean, healthy, safe, productive and biologically diverse oceans and seas, MMO's purpose is to protect and enhance our precious marine environment and support UK economic growth by enabling sustainable marine activities and development.
We are the independent regulator for England's seas, professionally delivering service-focussed outcomes for our customers.
We are a team of around 500 people and combine our hubs in Newcastle upon Tyne, Bristol, Preston, York, and London with a local presence around the English coastline in Brixham, Beverley, Harwich, Hastings, Lowestoft, North Shields, Hayle, Plymouth, Poole, Portsmouth, Scarborough, Shoreham, and Whitehaven.

Job description
This is a really exciting time to join the MMO as we become an independent coastal state, embedding new repatriated functions and services with an increased focus on the protection and enhancing of the marine environment.
Senior Marine Planners lead and contribute to the development and delivery of marine plans in England. The role will include understanding and analysing relevant evidence, including national and local policy, and integrating stakeholder views. Each Senior Marine Planner will undertake marine plan developmental work by contributing to the associated workstreams and acting on lessons learnt to support the marine planning process. Reporting to a Marine Planning Manager, the role holder will lead a theme from the economy, environment, or social groupings, and within the group lead the development and engagement for at least one sector. You will provide appropriate leadership and management to marine planners within workstreams that contribute to the marine planning programme.
You will work closely with colleagues within and outside of the MMO, engaging with a wide range of stakeholders to include industry, other sectors and members of the public, ensuring that their contributions are considered in an inclusive and appropriate manner.
We are recruiting for one Senior Executive Officer (SEO) Senior Marine Planner role.
The role focus will be either:
- to lead all forms of data and analysis with a focus on spatial mapping tools (GIS), data analysis, collaboration, databases and software
- to lead monitoring and evaluation of marine plans, including reporting to Parliament every 3 years on the progress of marine plans

This is a permanent role.
It is anticipated that a merit list will be created, lasting up to 12 months, that will assist in filling other Senior Marine Planner roles that may become available in the future. We are keen to hear from candidates with a broad range of skills and experience including a background in planning, local or national government, evidence and analysis, team leadership and project management.

What you need to do:

This will be issued once the vacancy has closed and you will have five days to take the test. Feedback will not be provided at sift stage.
- Interviews: These will be conducted virtually by a panel of three, including an independent member. During the interview you will be assessed on your knowledge, experience and may be required to complete a presentation. It is expected that the interview will last approximately 60 minutes and be conducted via MS Teams.
