We are currently expanding our Switch and Crossing (S&C) operations and are now looking to recruit full time Rail Technicians.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the machining, preparation and assembly of materials using designated machines, hand tools, manual handling, lifting and positioning methods to manufacture and build rail assemblies.

  • To have the enthusiasm to want to learn as many new skills and processes (Training provided).

  • To have the flexibility to work on something different when required to support the manufacturing of rail assemblies.
  • Assist in measuring, aligning and gauging rail components in accordance with component & assembly drawings.
  • Preparing, machining and fettling of components to ensure fit within given tolerances.
  • Operate machinery and equipment to assist in the manufacture of products.
  • Mark up finished assembly in accordance with the layout assembly drawing and prepare components for inspection and despatch.
  • Co-operate with team members, line managers to ensure that site activities are completed in accordance with company HSEQ policy and procedures.
  • Attend relevant induction, briefing and training sessions to maintain relevant skills and knowledge.
  • Work with other team members to maintain an environmentally friendly, clean and tidy site in accordance with company policy and procedures.
  • Ensure the correct safe use and storage of hand tools and other equipment.
  • Understand risks associated with activity and assume responsibility for the proper use and maintenance of appropriate PPE.
  • Undertake daily checks and report plant, tools and materials defects and damage to supervisor/line manager.
  • Report any accidents, near misses or safety / environmentally related incidents to supervisor / line manager immediately.
  • Ensure an understanding of company health and safety policy and relevant key health, safety, environmental and quality practices and procedures.

  • Ability to act decisively and solve problems.

  • Attention to detail to ensure high levels of quality.

  • Ability to communicate clearly with your colleagues.
  • Able to work to production timescales and achieve deadlines.
  • Work in a logical, systematic manner.
  • Working knowledge of quality, health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Willing to learn and undertake training in order to develop full potential.

Experience & Knowledge

  • Experience in manufacturing ideally with proven product and industry knowledge.
  • Experience within heavy engineering would be advantageous but not a prerequisite
  • Willingness to learn new processes and an ability to continually improve working techniques.
  • Ability to be flexible to work within different areas and processes.
  • Manual handling, OH Crane lifting / slinging, and FLT / Side Loader experience would be advantageous.
