Rockstar North is seeking a dedicated Associate UX Researcher who has a passion for understanding players and evaluating the gaming experience. The successful candidate will join a growing UX research team and help implement research activities on Rockstar's games and core products. 

This is a full-time, permanent and in-office position based in Rockstar's state-of-the-art game development studio in Edinburgh, Scotland. 

WHAT WE DO
  • The Rockstar Games UX Research Team run studies to build on the company's understanding of how players think, feel, and act while playing our games.
  • We value research excellence, ensuring every study yields high quality, actionable findings that our stakeholders can use to inform their decisions.
  • We collaborate with partner teams across the company, including game design, art, code, production, marketing, analytics, and consumer insights.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work with a team of UX researchers to plan and execute research activities for Rockstar's game development teams.
  • Work with others to identify product needs and transform them into research goals.
  • Apply a mixed-method approach, using a variety of qualitative and quantitative methods (including usability testing, experiential playtesting, interviews, surveys, telemetry, descriptive, and inferential statistics).
  • Smartly design research methods, balancing research rigor with practical context.
  • Generate actionable findings to support game development decisions.
  • Effectively and compellingly communicate research insights verbally and in writing to a variety of stakeholders with different backgrounds.
  • Play in-development game content and stay up to date with development progress and design decisions.

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors in Psychology, Sociology, Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Computer Science, Anthropology or related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in UX research or a similar field, particularly relevant if in the games industry (Masters or PhDs can count for up to 1 year).
  • Broad knowledge of video game genres and knowledge of Rockstar's past and present titles.
SKILLS
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and navigate organizational complexity and ambiguity.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively in a small, close-knit team, and collaborate where needed with game development stakeholders from a wide range of disciplines.
  • Ability to think strategically about overall objectives and how to achieve them.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented.
  • Self-starter, pro-active, entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Good at picking up and adhering to established processes.
  • Able to manage competing priorities and flag to teammates where needed.
  • Demonstrated passion for games and game development.
PLUSES

Please note that these are desirable skills and are not required to apply for the position.

  • Deep knowledge of Rockstar's games, especially online aspects.
  • Prior experience working with game development teams.
  • Technical skills in any of the following:
    • Quantitative research skills (e.g., inferential statistics, proficiency in software such as R, SPSS, Tableau).
    • Microsoft Excel for organising and analysing data.
    • Audio-visual and streaming technology (e.g., for recording and streaming playtest sessions).
    • Familiarity with survey tools such as Qualtrics or Alchemer.
    • Programming.
