At AWE, we don't just offer jobs — we offer purpose. Our mission is to help keep the nation safe, and every role plays a vital part. If you're an experienced Electrical Electronic Engineer seeking a meaningful challenge, this could be your opportunity to make a real impact.

We're currently recruiting for a Senior Electronics Warhead Engineer (Hardware) to join our Warhead Engineering team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong technical background who thrives in complex, high-integrity environments — from system integration to safety and security-critical projects. Due to the classified nature of our work, this role is primarily site-based at AWE.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Leading the design, integration, and testing of electrical/electronic systems
  • Leading System Engineering deliverables including requirements, system architectures and verification evidence.
  • Delivering engineering solutions across the full lifecycle, ensuring safety and performance standards
  • Driving technical delivery, continuous improvement, and innovation
  • Managing stakeholders and leading multidisciplinary teams
  • Presenting technical findings to internal and external audiences

What We're Looking For:

Essential:

  • HNC/HND, NVQ Level 5, or degree in a science/engineering discipline — or equivalent experience
  • Experience of the full engineering lifecycle using system engineering methodologies such as the V‑model.
  • Proven experience in leading technical projects and teams
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and people management abilities
  • Ability to plan and deliver multiple objectives concurrently

Desirable Experience:

  • Engineering delivery across safety-critical programmes
  • Experience is Model Based System Engineering
  • Cost-saving and efficiency improvement initiatives
  • Effective stakeholder engagement and influence
  • Coaching and developing others within multidisciplinary teams
  • Promoting high standards in safety, security, and quality

We ask a lot and set the bar high because our work truly matters. In return we offer balance, with award winning benefits including:

  • 9-day working fortnight – meaning you get every other Friday off work, in addition to 270 hours of annual leave.

  • Market leading contributory pension scheme (we will pay between 9% and 13% of your pensionable pay depending on your contributions)

  • Family friendly policies: Maternity Leave - 39 Weeks Full Pay and Paternity Leave - 4 Weeks Full Pay

  • Opportunities for Professional Career Development including funding for annual membership of a relevant professional body

  • Employee Assistance Programme and Occupational Health Services

  • Life Assurance (4 x annual salary)

  • Discounts – access to savings on a wide range of everyday spending

  • Special Leave Policy including paid time off for volunteering, public service (including reserve forces) and caring
