Senior Community Children's Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen to gain experience in the Community Children's Nursing Team who provide high quality evidence-based practice in the community, to children who have a clinical nursing need.
Band 6 role.
The team provides a 7-day service, weekdays and at weekends/bank holidays.
The successful candidate will need to be a good team player, hold a full driving licence and their own vehicle, and be prepared to travel throughout the East Suffolk area.
The post would be fixed term for a year from April April 2027 covering maternity leave and is based in the Ipswich office.
Full and part-time positions will be considered.
Main duties are to oversee a caseload and provide clinical nursing care to children in the community including administering IVAB's, NG support, Wound care, Injections, Central line care etc.

JOB PURPOSE:
- To work within the framework of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct.
- To undertake on-going training required to be clinically competent in caring for children with both complex/chronic and acute health care needs and their family.
- Proactively participate in the creation of a dynamic flexible and responsive environment through effective communication and contribution of ideas.
- Planning, implementation and evaluation of holistic programmes of care.
- Educate the child, parents and carers in the promotion of health and the prevention of ill health.
- Demonstrate and teach clinical procedures to parents/carers to enable them to contribute to the planned programme of care. To alleviate potential stress, and to prevent inappropriate admissions to hospital.
- Be responsible for the day-to-day clinical management of the service including delegating tasks, supervising junior staff and ensuring patient safety.
- Ensure the needs of children/young people and parents/carers are met at all times.

The West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds provides acute and secondary care services (emergency department, maternity and neonatal services, day surgery unit, eye treatment centre, Macmillan unit and children's ward). It has 500+ beds and is a partner teaching hospital of the University of Cambridge.
Adult and paediatric community services, provided in collaboration with West Suffolk Alliance partners, include a range of nursing, therapy, specialist, and ongoing temporary care and rehabilitation, some at our Newmarket Community Hospital.

STAFF CAR PARKING
Staff Car Parking on the West Suffolk Hospital Site is eligible for individuals working outside of the core hours, 07:00 – 18:30.
For individuals working within the core hours, the Trust offers parking off site at the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club, which is serviced by a regular shuttle bus to and from the Hospital. Details of the bus timetable can be found in the on-line starter pack on the West Suffolk Hospital website.
This parking restriction does not apply if an individual is required to work on a weekend or if they are required to complete "on call" duties within their role.
