POSITION TYPE: Full-time salaried role
SALARY: 25 – 30K depending on qualifications and experience
Nature of Role & Responsibilities:
Position Summary
We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and charismatic person to inspire women and girls within our community, provide Islamic religious guidance, practices, and leadership to Muslim women and girls in the city of Birmingham.
The role involves leading, developing, supporting and nurturing the spiritual and educational development and growth of women in the Muslim community. There are a variety of responsibilities aimed at women and girls such as developing spiritual programs, delivering talks, giving expert scholarly advice and counselling etc.
An additional focus will also be to promote Islamic academic, educational, and extracurricular programs for female adults, youth and children; lead the establishment for a unified Muslim community, welcoming to all Muslims from different backgrounds and cultures; and promote a non-sectarian approach which is inclusive of diversity within Islamic tradition and the Muslim community.
The candidate must be outward looking and actively engage with the larger community to promote friendship and understanding between Muslims and non-Muslims in the community.
Required Qualifications, Competencies and Experience
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent scholarly qualification in Islamic Sciences or related field from an accredited higher education institution
- Moderate Fluency in English and Arabic (spoken and written)
- Comprehensive knowledge of Islamic Sciences
- Preferably a Hafiz of Qur'an and be able to recite to a good standard
- Relevant experience as a women's lead or in an assistant role relevant to this role as specified
- Ability and willingness to teach, lead and manage all aspects of Islamic educational programs for women and girls including madrasah and the development of the Education Institute and adult courses for women and girls provided therein
- Experience in Islamic family and youth counselling, or is at least committed to development in this aspect via training
- Experience in pre-marital and marital counselling, or is willing to undergo training
- Experience in teaching and explaining Islam to Non-Muslims
- Ability to interact with and relate to female youth
- Ability to work with people of different cultures and backgrounds
- Demonstrated experience in conflict prevention and resolution
- Has a dynamic personality and is a motivational speaker
Essential Responsibilities:
For women and girls in the community:
· To lead all educational programs within the masjid
· To conduct talks and education programs
· To offer pre-marital and marital counselling and conflict resolution
· To provide Islamic family and youth counselling and guidance as needed
· Provide comprehensive course in Islamic Sciences – Qur'an, Hadith studies, Seerah and Fiqh etc. in weekdays and on weekends as and when programmed
· Participate in the community activities that further good interfaith and good public relations for Islam and Muslims with wider society
· Play an active role in accommodating mosque open days and visits to the masjid by schools and general public
· Oversee the development and implementation of educational programs for new Muslim women and planning of dawah activities aimed at women and girls
· Work with the Management Committee on fundraising programs for the community and masjid as needed
· Provide advice to the Management Committee on religious matters, community issues, and mosque activities affecting women and girls as requested
· Visit community events; Interfaith, schools and other institutes representing the Mosque on a regular basis
. General Responsibilities
- Maintain regular and convenient office hours at the Mosque for female community members to seek religious Counsel and guidance.
- To reply to Q&A on centre website and deal with queries and emails from women and girls.
- Interact with all persons and organisations, Muslim and Non-Muslim, in a manner that reflects positively on Islam, Muslims, and the Mosque
- Continually strive and conduct oneself in ways that foster unity and inclusiveness among all community members, and promote broad participation in Islamic and community activities
- Conduct oneself in a dignified manner commensurate with the teachings of Islam and be example to the community.
