Description & Requirements
We are seeking a talented, self-motivated and future-thinking analyst to join BloombergNEF's Energy Economics team. Working in Energy Economics means being at the core of what BNEF does best: turning complex data and analysis into insights that influence global decision-making. The work can be intense at times - especially around major publications - but that's part of what makes it exciting. You'll learn fast, collaborate across teams worldwide, and see your efforts reflected in research that matters. We work hard, but we also support each other, celebrate successes, and have fun solving tough problems together.

Our Team
You'll be based in our London office, working at the heart of some of BNEF's most influential analysis: the long-term dynamics of the global energy transition. You'll play a key role in producing our flagship New Energy Outlook - a report that helps shape decision-making across governments, companies and investors while also bringing together insights from our sector and regional specialists into a single house view. You'll see your work directly shape the debate on the future of energy. You will thrive in this team if: you are passionate about understanding how the energy system is changing - and about making a real impact in this fast-moving industry. Your quantitative skills are strong, you are organized and enjoy working with complex data and models. You are comfortable forming and defending your opinions, and you can explain them clearly to diverse audiences. You enjoy working in a collaborative, international environment and are motivated by solving big, meaningful challenges with colleagues and clients alike.

BNEF Team Ethos
To succeed at BNEF we need people who can work in an independent manner and show initiative to develop their own viewpoints, yet be collaborative with colleagues. We don't rely on the status quo, we look for innovative yet pragmatic thinking that turns big ideas into real insights and impact. Working at BNEF sometimes feels chaotic; we need teams that are both dynamic and structured to generate the unique perspectives our clients really value. Our teams are diverse, creative, focused, and fun

We'll Trust You To

  • Run, improve and develop proprietary in-house models for energy and technology uptake across economic sectors and regions, in close collaboration with our regional partners
  • Research and explain the key dynamics of energy markets, with a focus on the power sector, industry, transport, and the fuels and technologies driving the transition
  • Lead all aspects of our large, multi-month project cycles and grow into managing them end-to-end
  • Collaborate with global teams and departments of Bloomberg, leveraging their knowledge and data, as well as supporting them in their research efforts
  • Use tools like SQL, Python, Excel and AI to process, visualize and tell stories with data
  • Identify and write about major trends shaping the energy transition, especially for the New Energy Outlook
  • Engage directly with clients, prospects and market experts,; present at briefings, conferences and new business discussions
  • Help develop and implement new analyses, products, data sets and tools.
  • Build and grow your network of industry contacts, representing BNEF with senior partners across a wide variety of senior stakeholders

You'll Need To Have

  • A solid grasp of global energy market dynamics and an interest in decarbonization pathways
  • Experience with energy models (academic or professional), comfort with large datasets and familiarity with key energy statistics and providers are a strong plus.
  • Quantitative skills (Excel, and ideally Python, SQL), a sharp eye for detail, and the ability to communicate clearly in writing and presentations
  • Strong organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • At least 2-3 years of professional experience in an energy, consulting, a strategy organization or a similar institution
  • A master's degree in a relevant subject with coursework on economics, energy markets, modelling and econometrics
  • Most importantly, you'll need a hands-on, can-do attitude and a strong team spirit to thrive in both fast-paced crunch moments and collaborative, creative problem-solving

We'd Love To See

  • Experience in modelling long-term energy scenarios, particularly electricity markets and industrial sectors
  • Experience working on multi-month projects which involve long-term planning.
  • Evidence of previous work for clients in a competitive, professional environment, and an interest in business development
