Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom Apple Full time £30,000 - £60,000 per year

At Apple, we don't just build products-we craft experiences that become part of people's lives. The Photos app isn't just software; it's where life's most precious moments live, and where AI meets human emotion.

The Cambridge Photos Intelligence team sits at the cutting edge of this mission. We're the engineers and researchers building AI-powered experiences that help users rediscover forgotten gems, relive perfect moments, and find meaning in their visual stories. We're pioneering the next frontier of Apple Intelligence-where technology becomes invisible and magic feels effortless.

As an intern on our team, you'll prototype new capabilities and help shape the next generation of Photos intelligence. Our environment moves quickly, from research and experimentation to implementation and productization.

Description

In this internship, you will explore the cutting-edge intersection of AI and software engineering within the Photos Intelligence team. You will investigate novel applications of Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI agents to revolutionize how users interact with their photo libraries.

Working in a fast-paced research environment, you will prototype innovative AI-driven experiences and build proof-of-concept implementations that demonstrate new interaction paradigms. You will collaborate with AI/ML researchers to translate AI concepts into tangible prototypes

This role offers the unique opportunity to be at the forefront of Apple Intelligence integration, using Photos as the ideal playground of personal data to pioneer next-generation AI experiences. You will contribute to groundbreaking research while gaining hands-on experience in both cutting-edge AI technologies and software engineering practices

We are seeking an intern passionate about pushing the boundaries of human-computer interaction and excited about the potential for AI to create deeper connections with personal memories.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience integrating ML models into applications or prototypes

Familiarity with iOS/macOS development or mobile application development

Previous work on consumer-facing applications through projects or coursework

Passion for photography, visual storytelling, and creating meaningful user experiences

Minimum Qualifications

Excellent foundation in computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles

Experience with machine learning concepts and frameworks (academic projects, coursework, or personal projects welcome)

Demonstrated programming skills in languages such as Python, Swift, or C++ through coursework, internships, or personal projects

Ability to work collaboratively in team environments and communicate technical concepts clearly

At Apple, we're not all the same. And that's our greatest strength. We draw on the differences in who we are, what we've experienced and how we think. Because to create products that serve everyone, we believe in including everyone. Therefore, we are committed to treating all applicants fairly and equally. As a registered Disability Confident employer, we will work with applicants to make any reasonable accommodations. Apple will consider for employment all qualified applicants with criminal backgrounds in a manner consistent with applicable law. Learn more
