Geotechnical Equipment Operator

CMS GeoScience Ltd is looking for a geotechnical equipment operator to join the team, primarily based in our office near Falmouth, Cornwall.
Our multidisciplinary geoscience team specialise in the collection of data from around the UK and Europe for a variety of marine business ranging from ports & harbours to offshore energy developments, civil engineering projects through to key aggregate industries. Our data allows our clients to properly evaluate the seabed prior to developments or activities effecting the seabed.
You will become a key member of this specialised team and take responsibility for a variety of tasks related to the maintenance, mobilisation/demobilisation, testing, trouble shooting and operation of a wide range of geotechnical equipment both from our own 24m survey vessel and from third party vessels around the globe
This role will primarily be based in our South West offices near Falmouth, but will demand a flexible approach towards your working location.
You will typically be required to work offshore for several weeks at a time, throughout the year, in demanding marine environments as well as having the opportunity to work around the globe on various third party contracts. Tidal and coastal/inshore working demands a flexible approach to working patterns.
When not offshore you will be working from our Falmouth site helping with the maintenance and control of our equipment. You will also work from our labs in Plymouth or Lowestoft, with travel/temporary accommodation provided as required.

What would a typical week look like?
You will be challenged on a daily basis and encouraged to perform to the highest standards at all times. Your typical day, when onshore, will focus on the planned maintenance of our geotechnical and environmental equipment under the guidance of our Mechanical Design Engineer. You will make sure you have prioritised any equipment which is due to be mobilised whilst also checking for faults, damage and repairs required to equipment which is being returned to the depot.
You will be involved in team meetings where you will feed in information about the status of the equipment and receive instructions about upcoming requirements. You may be helping to despatch equipment going to third parties on hire and will be liaising with our shipping companies and preparing the necessary paperwork to do so.
You may be carrying out stock checks of our consumables or you may be ordering in spares and parts needed to maintain our kit.
At sea you will be required to take responsibility for the safe mobilisation and operation of the equipment, maintain necessary records and trouble shoot when required to ensure the project runs to time. You will be able to jump in and help with other tasks onboard the vessel to keep the project moving.
When the job ends you will ensure that the equipment is safely demobilised, records are updated on performance, faults or suggested improvements and all required actions are identified and scheduled.
What do you need to apply?
- Possess a relevant qualification in Electronics, Mechanics, and/or applicable military training and experience.
- Possess a background in industrial electrical, electronic, mechanical equipment operations and repair
- Possess in-depth knowledge and use of computer hardware and software, and the ability to troubleshoot technological problems
- A full UK driving licence
- Current eligiblility to work in the UK
- A valid offshore medical certificate
- Fluent in spoken and written English
Nice to have but not essential:
- Experience in soldering, electrical wiring, and schematic interpretation, preferred.
- Knowledge in hydraulic circuits fundamentals and troubleshooting preferred / troubleshooting experience, preferred.
- Software /programme experience
