Recyclling Operative

Job Summary

On site operative required for a manufacturing facility in Cramlington NE23.

Recycling Operative - must have FLT licence (counterbalance) /experience.

Warehousing experience preferable.

Duties will include all general tasks around the on site collection, sorting, containment and preparation of recycling and waste materials for dispatch.

Alternating shift pattern - with weekend work rota ( O/T rate for weekend and after 40 hours)

Shift 1: Mon - Thurs ( 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. ) Friday ( 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.)

Shift 2: Mon - Thurs ( 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. ) Friday (2 p.m. to 8 p.m.)

NOTE : The late shift carries a £1 hr uplift /bonus ( @ £13.21 p/h)

There is a shared rota with colleagues to cover Saturday and Sunday work ( currently every 3 weeks ) for which overtime rates apply ( Saturday x 1.5 day rate / Sunday x2 day rate) and is normally for 4-5 hours per morning.

Responsibilities and Duties

All aspects of waste collection and segregation to support the recycling programme on a customer site. Main role is collecting pre-segregated recycling materials from around the facility and checking/sorting for off site recovery.

Loading and unloading vehicles;

Undertaking cleaning and packaging activities.

Work will involve the use of forklift at times although work will be split with general cleaning and labouring tasks.

Main duties include:-

  • Collecting materials from around the facility

  • Working with recycling equipment as required,

  • Manually sorting and grading specific recyclable materials for onward recovery

  • Operating forklift truck

  • Loading and unloading vehicles.

  • Conducting daily checks of forklift, machinery, plant, and equipment.

  • General storage and warehousing tasks - ensuring the safe and secure operation of those areas.

  • Assisting with cleaning duties as requested and specifically keeping their area clean, tidy and walkways and escape routes free from obstruction.

  • Liaising with chemists and hazardous waste technical staff to identify and prepare consignments

  • Any other task allocated by the customer in relation to the on-site service.
