About the Role:

This is an exciting, challenging, and highly influential role at the forefront of supporting our community's most vulnerable children. As a SEND Officer, you will be instrumental in ensuring every student with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs), receives the precise support required to thrive.

You will be central to making a tangible, significant difference in the educational journeys of these students.

The SEND Officer will work directly with the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) to drive the Academy's SEND strategy and provision by:

  • Strategic Support: Assist the SENCo in the identification, assessment, and strategic planning to meet the diverse needs of students with additional learning needs and EHCPs.
  • Case Management & Monitoring: Arrange, implement, and rigorously monitor the effectiveness of Student Support Plans (SSPs), ensuring they are impactful and up-to-date.
  • Funding & Legal Compliance: Manage and submit direct applications to the Local Authority for additional support and funding, ensuring all legal deadlines are strictly met.
  • Exam Access Arrangements: Directly support the SENCo in coordinating and implementing appropriate Exam Access Arrangements for qualifying students.
  • External Liaison: Coordinate and collaborate with a wide range of external agencies to secure holistic and comprehensive wider support for our students.
  • Line Management & Deployment: Lead and line manage the Academy's team of Teaching Assistants (TAs), focusing on their optimal deployment, professional development, and effectiveness across the Academy.

  • Exceptional Organisation & Prioritisation: Proven ability to manage a demanding workload, prioritise tasks effectively, and consistently meet strict statutory and legal deadlines.
  • Professionalism & Sensitivity: Utmost professionalism, discretion, and empathy in managing sensitive issues and working with our most vulnerable students and their families.
  • Collaborative Stakeholder Management: The ability to work seamlessly and build strong, trusting relationships with diverse stakeholders, including colleagues, parents/carers, and external professionals.
