The Opportunity

In the role of Adult Learning Tutor, here's an example of what you'll be doing to make an impact:

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in developing and delivering our expanding digital learning offer.

As a Digital Skills Tutor, you will plan and deliver high-quality, learner-centred digital skills courses to adults across Derby, in both community venues and learning centres. Your learners may include those who are unemployed, economically inactive, or seeking to improve their digital confidence for work, study, or everyday life.

Our current digital curriculum includes both accredited and non-accredited learning opportunities, such as Essential Digital Skills Qualifications (EDSQ) at Entry Level and Level 1; Level 1 Awards in Programming, Web Design, Games Design, and Cyber Security; as well as a range of short introductory courses, including Step Up to Digital, AI, Getting to Know Your Laptop, and 3D Printing.

We are continuing to expand this area and welcome applicants with the skills or interest to help us develop new provision, particularly in Level 2 and Level 3 digital qualifications, AI and emerging technologies, and Microsoft 365 and productivity tools (from basic to advanced).

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have a strong understanding of digital technologies and a passion for helping adults develop the skills they need to thrive in work and life. You will be confident delivering both accredited and non-accredited digital courses, adapting your approach to meet the needs of learners with varying levels of digital confidence.

You will have experience of teaching, training, or coaching adults, ideally within community or further education settings, and will demonstrate the ability to engage, motivate, and support learners to achieve their goals.

You will also bring excellent communication and organisational skills, along with the flexibility to deliver learning both in centres and community venues across Derby.

Essential requirements:

  • Proven experience in teaching, training, or supporting adults in digital skills or a related subject area.
  • Strong digital literacy and confidence in using and teaching Microsoft 365 applications, online learning platforms, and digital communication tools.
  • The ability to plan and deliver inclusive, learner-centred sessions tailored to individual needs.
  • A recognised teaching or training qualification (or a willingness to work towards one).
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and widening participation in adult learning.

Desirable:

  • Experience delivering accredited digital qualifications such as EDSQ or Level 1/2 Awards.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies, including AI, coding (Python, web design), or 3D printing.
  • Experience developing new courses or digital learning materials.
  • Understanding of digital inclusion and the role of digital skills in employability and community development.

Next Steps

The closing date for this vacancy is at midnight on 30th November 2025. Any applications received after the closing date will not be accepted.

Interviews will be held: At a Derby Adult Learning Service centre.
