About The Team
We are seeking an experienced and visionary leader to head our Holistic Risk Oversight pillar within the Risk and Controls Oversight function at Stripe. This senior role is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive strategies to oversee and manage risks across the organization. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in risk management, a deep understanding of financial technology and payments, and the ability to drive change at the highest levels of the organization.
What you'll do
Key Responsibilities
Innovation and Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute a long-term strategy for risk oversight across key domains including operational, financial, strategic, and other risk areas - aligned with and adaptable to Stripe's growing business
- Provide thought leadership and guidance to senior management on risk-related matters
- Stay abreast of Stripe's product and business development, industry trends, emerging risks, and best practices in risk management
- Drive innovation in risk assessment techniques and tools and embed a culture of innovation in the team in order to continuously enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of risk oversight processes
- Cultivate a culture of risk awareness and accountability throughout the organization
Risk Oversight And Management
- Lead the second line oversight of critical risk domains across Stripe, including financial, operational, security, and strategic risks
- Support the team in conducting in-depth thematic assessments of key risk areas, leveraging insights from investigations, emerging trends, regulatory changes, and other relevant factors
Stakeholder Management And Collaboration
- Foster strong partnerships with front-line teams, business units, and other key stakeholders to ensure effective understanding of key risk and control areas
- Present results of thematic risk analyses and overarching risk assessments to regulatory bodies, boards of directors, and other stakeholders
- Manage complex stakeholder relationships across various levels of the organization fostering a strong partnership on improving Stripe's ability to manage key risk areas
Team Leadership And Development
- Lead a high-performing team of risk management professionals
- Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement
- Lead teams through Stripe's continued growth and business changes
- Attract and retain top talent in the risk management field
Who you are
We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.
Minimum Requirements
- 10-15 years of experience in compliance and / or risk management, with at least 8 years in senior leadership roles
- Extensive people management experience, including leading teams through organizational changes
- Deep knowledge of payments and financial technology companies, products, and associated risks
- Comprehensive understanding of enterprise risk management frameworks and their practical application and ability to adapt these frameworks to Stripe's unique context
- Subject matter expertise in financial, security, and other enterprise risk controls
- Proven track record of developing and implementing risk management strategies at an enterprise level
- Strong ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships and navigate organizational dynamics
- Experience explaining control frameworks and risk management strategies to partners and regulators
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications
- Financial Risk Manager (FRM) or other related certification
- Advanced degree in a relevant field of study
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
- Start-up experience
- Previous experience in a high volume transactional payment environment
In-office expectations
Office-assigned Stripes in most of our locations are currently expected to spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This expectation may vary depending on role, team and location. For example, Stripes in our Bucharest, Romania site have an 80% in-office expectation, and those in Stripe Delivery Center roles in Mexico City, Mexico and Bengaluru, India work 100% from the office. Also, some teams have greater in-office attendance requirements, to appropriately support our users and workflows, which the hiring manager will discuss. This approach helps strike a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility when possible.
Pay and benefits
The annual salary range for this role in the primary location is £127,200 - £190,800. This range may change if you are hired in another location. For sales roles, the range provided is the role's On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and specific location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the primary location may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.
