Our students and staff, past, present, and future, are the beating heart of our city and can be found in every corner of every industry and community. We couldn't exist anywhere else and have shaped the city in which we belong. Working with the people of Liverpool to improve lives and support communities is at the heart of why we were founded and why we exist today.

The Faculty of Health, Innovation, Technology and Science are seeking two enthusiastic and highly organised individuals to work on a two-year research programme on hydration and health. The successful candidates will work alongside Professor Neil Walsh and a Research Officer on an industry-funded research programme extending recently published work. Find out more about our recent research here.

You will be expected to assist in all aspects of the programme of work, including: study design; ethical approval; the day-to-day running and administration of the research project; the implementation of interventions; assisting in the collection and interpretation of data; and the production of technical reports and manuscripts for publication.

You will hold a good honours degree (First or 2.1) in a relevant subject area e.g., nutrition, human physiology, health psychology, exercise science. A masters postgraduate degree is desirable.

Experience of conducting high quality research is essential, as is experience of biological sample collection (including venous blood collection), handling, storage (in accordance with GLP), biochemical analysis and an awareness of quality control techniques. Some experience of working with sponsors from industry is desirable. In addition, you must be able to demonstrate the ability to manage and prioritise a continuously demanding workload.

Anticipated interview date will be week commencing 26th January 2026. You will be expected to commence the post in March 2026.

Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Neil Walsh, e-mail:

In return, we offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction and development support as well as family-friendly policies.

This is an exciting time to join the university as we deliver the LJMU Strategy 2030 and its vision of LJMU as an inclusive civic university transforming lives and futures, by placing students at the heart of everything we do.

If you feel that this is the role you have been looking for and your skills and experience can make a real difference at LJMU, we look forward to hearing from you.

We would encourage applications from all individuals who meet the advert criteria, but would particularly encourage females, BAME, LGBTQ+, non-binary, individuals with a disability or those from culturally, ethnically, sexually or racially distinct backgrounds to apply.

The Faculty of Health, Innovation, Technology and Science is proud of its commitment to diversity & inclusion and endeavours to cultivate a staff base that is representative of society. Further, the panel will make any required reasonable adjustments for candidates with a disability.

Please note all of our vacancies will be closed to applications at midnight on the advertised closing date, unless otherwise stated.
