We are seeking an exceptional leader to drive forward Wrexham's vision for Welsh-medium and bilingual education. This strategic role is central to delivering the Welsh in Education Strategic Plan (WESP) 2022–2031 and supporting the ambitions of the Welsh Language and Education (Wales) Bill.

As Welsh Education Transformation Manager, you will lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of the WESP, ensuring that our plans remain ambitious, evidence-based, and responsive to evolving priorities. You will champion Welsh language provision across the authority and lead innovative approaches to embedding bilingualism across all phases of education.

You will lead, manage and promote the Council's service for supporting latecomers to Welsh-medium education. This includes overseeing the full operation of the Welsh Latecomers (Trochi) Service across both primary and secondary phases, managing the language centre and associated outreach provision. The role ensures equitable access and informed choice for families entering Welsh-medium education at any stage of a learner's journey.

The postholder will advise, support and collaborate with schools, partners and the Welsh in Education Forum (WEF) to create a fully inclusive, accessible, and proactive Welsh-medium education offer. They will work alongside internal teams and external stakeholders to build capacity, support school improvement, and enhance professional learning.

Key Responsibilities

 Strategic Leadership: Drive the delivery of the WESP, including setting targets, monitoring progress, and reporting to Welsh Ministers and other stakeholders.

 Champion Welsh Language Education: Promote and expand Welsh-medium and bilingual provision across all education settings.

 Stakeholder Engagement: Chair the Welsh in Education Forum (WEF) and act as the key liaison between the Council, schools, and partners.

 Service Management: Oversee the Welsh Latecomers (Trochi) Service, including the language centre and outreach provision, ensuring equitable access for all learners.

 Pedagogical Expertise: Provide high-level advice on curriculum design, language acquisition, immersion methodologies, and assessment to support school improvement.

 Siarter Iaith Leadership: Lead the strategic implementation and monitoring of Wrexham's Siarter Iaith: National Framework and Cymraeg Campus initiatives.

 Team Leadership: Lead, manage and develop specialist teams, including the Welsh Immersion/Trochi Team, Siarter Iaith and advisory teams for both Welsh and English-medium schools (Primary and secondary).

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic leader with:

 A deep understanding of Welsh-medium and bilingual education, including curriculum design, progression, and immersion pedagogy.

 Proven ability to translate policy into high-impact practice.

 Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.

 Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

 Experience in managing teams and resources effectively.

 Fluency in Welsh and English (essential).

This post requires the successful candidate to have a full, clean drivers licences and travel between multiple provision sites on a daily basis.
