At Sheffield Hallam, content designers work to make things simpler and easier to use. Whether it's improving a single piece of content or shaping a whole area of our website, content designers help users get things done while supporting the university's goals. This could involve creating or updating content for digital platforms, print, or both.
You'll be joining a friendly, motivated and creative team working to improve the user experience. You will collaborate with UX design and product professionals, digital operations, delivery developers and other stakeholders from student recruitment marketing, to directly deliver a better experience for users.
What you'll be doing
Support and build relationships with stakeholders, including marketing, student recruitment and creative, influencing and collaborating with them to improve the structure and quality of the content
Regularly update and develop new content on the University CMS, Sitecore
Create, improve and manage accessible and plain English content that meets user needs
Actively use data analytics, user research and insight to identify user needs
Support development of user journeys and user stories to inform content strategy and design decisions.
Be a content design advocate and promote consistency, good practice and standards.
Have some working knowledge around accessibility best practice and awareness of WCAG guidelines
Work with the digital experience manager to contribute to content design planning
Share information with key stakeholders the value content design can bring, and embed content design practices into ways of working.
You'll suit this role if you:
have excellent copy and digital content skills
are naturally curious and enjoy exploring and translating user insight
are comfortable actively engaging with stakeholders
can explain your content choices clearly
advocate for content design and user-centred design, both in the team and beyond
build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
thrive in a multidisciplinary team, reviewing work from others and offering constructive feedback
are eager to learn and develop, both independently and through formal training
are respectful and tactful when dealing with stakeholders
are proactive and actively problem solve.
