Applications for this post are invited from experienced Clinical Technologists with an appetite to address the challenges of service growth and improvement, underpinned by experience in Radiation Protection, Diagnostic Radiology and Quality Assurance.

As a member of the Radiology Physics Group the post holder will take an active role within the Clinical Technologist workforce of the Section and be part of Unsealed Sub-group enabling delivery of high quality Radiation Protection, Quality Assurance and technical support services to Radiology and Nuclear Medicine departments within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and other NHS and commercial organisations within South Yorkshire and beyond.

The focus of this post is to support the delivery of efficient, high-quality Radiation Protection and Quality Assurance across multiple modalities.

We require applicants who can rise to the challenge of managing operational delivery of routine and ad hoc, complex multisite/multi-customer services.

Please also note this vacancy is banded dependent upon applicants experience relevant to this post. The banding of the successful applicant/s will start at Band 5 unless applicants meet the necessary threshold of skills and experience required to start on Band 6.

To provide technical support to scientific staff in the provision of a high-quality radiation protection service to users of x-ray units, radioactive materials and non-ionising radiations, extending over a comprehensive range of services, in both hospital environments and to external clients.

Participate, and lead, in the scheduling and calibration of portable radiation protection instruments.

Participate, and lead, in the scheduling and testing of sealed sources.

Participate, and lead, in the provision of laboratory services and the completion of laboratory QA and health and safety routines.

To use the Section spreadsheets and databases to record and report on equipment surveys, instrument calibrations and sealed source management including wipe tests.

To develop, as directed, spreadsheets and databases to meet changing service requirements for the instrument calibration service.

Perform complex technical measurements and calibrations as part of Diagnostic Radiology QA services to all Trusts and other establishments, consistent with documented procedures and in full compliance with relevant health and safety guidelines.

To follow Section procedures, maintain appropriate records and to report any non-conformances to senior members of the section.

To participate and lead in the calibration of diagnostic QA viewing monitors to set protocols.

To participate and lead where appropriate with the section cross calibration service on a range of x-ray test equipment.
