What you'll do:
As an Indirect Tax Director based in London, you will play a pivotal role in advising multinational organisations on their most complex indirect tax challenges. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve leading client engagements from inception through execution, offering strategic insights into VAT planning across multiple jurisdictions. You will collaborate with clients on international expansion projects, supply chain optimisation efforts, M&A transactions, joint ventures, restructurings, and more-ensuring they remain compliant while maximising efficiency. In addition to managing VAT registration processes and overseeing due diligence during acquisitions or reorganisations, you will help clients navigate evolving regulatory landscapes by implementing robust compliance frameworks. Your ability to resolve disputes with local authorities through empathetic communication will be key to building lasting client relationships. You will also contribute to the growth of the practice by supporting business development initiatives and participating in thought leadership activities. - Lead and manage indirect tax advisory engagements for a wide range of multinational clients, ensuring high-quality service delivery across all projects.
- Advise clients on VAT structuring and planning strategies in various jurisdictions to optimise tax efficiency while maintaining full compliance with local regulations.
- Provide expert guidance on indirect tax implications related to international expansion, supply chain optimisation, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, restructurings, and other significant business activities.
- Assist clients with VAT registration requirements across multiple countries and advise on efficient reporting processes tailored to their operational needs.
- Oversee VAT due diligence projects during acquisitions or reorganisations by identifying risks and opportunities and presenting actionable recommendations to clients.
- Support clients in navigating changes in global VAT regulations such as EU directives by implementing effective compliance frameworks that mitigate risk.
- Collaborate closely with clients to resolve indirect tax disputes or audits with local authorities across different jurisdictions through clear communication and technical insight.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships by providing ongoing communication, technical expertise, and value-driven solutions customised to each client's unique circumstances.
- Contribute actively to practice growth through business development initiatives including proposal support and participation in thought leadership activities focused on current trends in indirect taxation.
- Mentor, coach, and develop junior team members by sharing knowledge and fostering an inclusive environment that encourages professional growth.

With recognised qualifications such as ACA/CTA (and possibly further certifications), you demonstrate both depth of knowledge and dedication to ongoing professional development.
- ACA/CTA or equivalent accounting qualification is preferred; additional certifications related to indirect taxation are considered advantageous for this position.
- At least ten years of experience in indirect/VAT tax consulting within public accounting or professional services firms is essential for success in this role.
- A deep understanding of U.K., EU VAT systems as well as global indirect tax principles-including OECD guidelines and developments in other key foreign jurisdictions-is required.
- Proven ability to manage complex indirect tax projects from initial planning through execution while ensuring compliance across multiple jurisdictions is highly valued.
- Exceptional communication skills paired with a strong client service orientation enable you to present technical concepts clearly to non-tax professionals.
- Comfortable working in an advisory environment where tight deadlines and competing priorities require adaptability and resilience.
