Job Purpose

The post holder will facilitate the delivery of a hairdressing facility within HMP Grampian. You will be responsible for the effective management and development of those in our care. You will support those in our care gaining appropriate work experience and nationally recognised qualifications aimed at improving their employment prospects on release. You will provide direct training and assessment of relevant skills for women in custody as well as provide support for training provided by external partners within the function. Deliver certified training to meet targets set for the establishment in accordance with the Performance Contract. Effectively train, instruct and assess prisoners in the theory and practice required to achieve the standards set by the relevant examining body or training organisation.

Responsibilities

Effectively train, instruct and assess prisoners in the theory and practice required to achieve the standards set by the relevant examining body or training organisation. Liaise with external partner ref service delivery options and training requirements, make all necessary arrangements to ensure delivery partners are appropriately inducted and vetted prior to working in the custodial environment.

Maintain security and discipline in the workplace, in accordance with the SPS security standards, ensuring the security of TIOC (Those in our care).

Ensure effective use of resources; budget, prisoner numbers, wages, materials and equipment within functional area. Provide support to other activities area/residential functional areas to ensure effective service delivery.

Maintenance of a safe, health and standards compliant working environment through regular and effective Hazard identification and Risk Assessment. Support, guide and assist the work or prisoners employed within the functional areas, ensuring compliance with SPS rules, regulations and operating standards

Ensure effective maintenance of machinery and equipment is carried out in accordance with maintenance plans and regulations. Ensure all prisoners, staff and partners within functional area adhere to Health & Safety requirements, all relevant safe systems of work and hygiene standards.

Person Specification

Qualification Requirements

Served a recognised apprenticeship and achieved an accredited qualification in Hairdressing (City & Guilds or SVQ equivalent) (Essential).

Hold the A1 Assessor Award or willing to work towards. (Essential).

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements

Sound knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, particularly in relation to Risk Assessment, Safe Systems of Work and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSSH) regulations. (Essential).

Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate others to achieve positive results. Ability to assess candidate skills levels through observation and instruction. (Essential).

Experience of delivering training in a commercial environment. (Essential).
