Overview
The Stores Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the stores department, ensuring the efficient receipt, storage, and dispatch of materials and goods. This role plays a key part in maintaining accurate inventory levels, ensuring compliance with company standards, and supporting continuous improvement across all stores processes. In addition, the postholder will establish and implement a first-class engineering stores facility within Veetee, maintaining the stores to effectively support the Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programme. The role will also involve the ongoing development and optimisation of the CMMS system, efficient completion of assigned tasks, and flexibility in supporting the wider needs of the business and team, while actively contributing to the achievement of organisational goals.
Duties
Operational Oversight
- Oversee and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the stores department, ensuring all stock movements are accurately recorded and materials are stored efficiently.
- Maintain a well-organised, safe, and user-friendly stores facility that maximises available space.
- Ensure all work is carried out in full compliance with Health & Safety requirements, promoting a culture of safety and responsibility.
Stock and Inventory Management
- Manage the receipt and booking-in of deliveries, ensuring all items are correctly located, labelled, and supported by accurate documentation.
- Maintain accurate stock control through regular cycle counts, monthly stocktakes, and system reconciliations as directed by the Facilities and Stores Manager.
- Manage the reordering of stock items based on system-defined minimum and maximum levels to ensure operational continuity.
- Coordinate the purchasing of items for reactive maintenance tasks in accordance with approved purchase requisitions and work orders.
Leadership and Team Development
- Lead, support, and develop junior stores team members, ensuring adherence to established procedures and promoting a culture of accountability, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Reporting and Analysis
- Generate and maintain reports to monitor store performance, including parts-to-reorder, purchase order status, deliveries outstanding, and stock reconciliation accuracy.
- Create analytical reports to evaluate system effectiveness, stock accuracy, and stock turn performance.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration
- Liaise effectively with internal departments including Production, Procurement, and Quality to meet business and operational requirements.
Continuous Improvement and Compliance
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve storage systems, workflow efficiency, and inventory accuracy.
- Support internal and external audits, compliance checks, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Escalate any discrepancies, supply issues, or operational concerns to the Facilities and Stores Manager promptly.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties or responsibilities as requested by management to support the wider needs of the business.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Demonstrated experience in a similar stores or inventory coordination role.
- Proven track record of managing stock control, receipt, storage, and dispatch operations.
- Strong computer literacy, including use of CMMS or stock management systems.
- Ability to follow instructions while using initiative to resolve issues.
- Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills across departments.
