The Chief Operating Officer Group works closely with the Home Office's policy and operational commands to enable us together to deliver the department's priorities. The group is comprised of different teams and professional functions, including Commercial, Finance, People, Portfolio and Project Delivery, Security, Estates and Information and Digital, Data and Technology.

Job description

As a Risk and Issues Manager, you will provide general advice and support on risk management, building capability, conducting challenge sessions on risk management and associated mitigations, and ensuring effective risk management activities.

Key Responsibilities

This role will include but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining the Risk Management Strategy and planning for effective Risk Management in accordance with best practice, departmental policy and the complexity of the change initiative.
  • Ensuring compliance with, and planning the continuous improvement of, PD Risk and Issues strategies(y), processes and procedures within change initiatives or sub-organisation(s).
  • Providing effective and efficient advice on PD Risks and Issues to Project/Programme Managers and senior leaders.
  • Developing a programme of regular risk and issue reviews with key stakeholders. Being point of contact for professional knowledge and expertise on PD Risk and Issue Management for their sub-organisation.
  • Supporting the business in identifying appropriate strategies for dealing with Risk and Issues. Responsible or facilitating the identification, analysis and monitoring of PD Risks and Issues.
  • Plans the periodic reporting of risk and ad-hoc PD Risk and Issues reports to meet changing customer demands.
  • Undertaking qualitative and quantitative risk analysis, as required by Governance bodies.
  • Establishing and maintaining the Risk, Issues and Assumptions database and register(s) for the change initiative(s).

The above responsibilities are not exhaustive, and the post holders may be required to undertake any of the above tasks or additional tasks not listed above, within the remit of their grade, to support the team.

Working Pattern

Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis.

Travel

Occasional travel within the UK may be required. Travel costs incurred for business need will be reimbursed in line with Home Office travel policy.

Person specification

Essential Criteria

  • Risk qualified at Practitioner level (Management of Risk (MoR) or Institute of Risk Management (IRM)), or equivalent.
  • Extensive knowledge of risk management and its application to business activities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues at every level within an organisation.
  • Close attention to detail, good organisational skills, and the ability to develop and implement effective risk reporting and assurance processes.
  • Experience of dealing with senior stakeholders (G7 – SCS) with the ability to influence upwards.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly in the development of products including PowerPoint, Excel and Microsoft Project Office (MSPO).

2. Sift – commencing 17th December

The sift will be held on the CV, Personal Statement and Behaviour.

Should a high volume of applications be received, an initial sift will be conducted on the Behaviour - Changing and Improving. Candidates who pass the initial sift will then be progressed to a full sift that will consist of the CV and Personal Statement.

3. Interview – week commencing 12th January

If you are successful at sift stage, you will be invited to an interview that will be Behaviour and Strength based questions (as listed in the job advert).

The interview will take placeon Teams. Candidates will be required to have access to:

  • A laptop (personal or work) with a working webcam
  • Good internet connection
  • Microsoft Teams
