What To Expect
The Sr. Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist, Construction (Energy Infrastructure) drives EHS process excellence, regulatory compliance, and risk reduction across Tesla's Commercial, Industrial, and Utility deployments in the EMEA region. Reporting to the EHS Director, Energy and Charging, they ensure world-class standards are established and sustained by interfacing with regional leadership, engineering teams, regulatory bodies, front-line operations, contractors, and cross-functional partners to support continuous improvement in design, deployment, and operations.
The ideal candidate is self-motivated, excels in both independent and collaborative projects, and responds effectively to concerns from market leaders, managers, and employees. They demonstrate strong leadership, organizational, communication, analytical, and detail-oriented skills, thriving in a fast-paced environment where exceptional work is recognized and rewarded. This position is based in the UK (London) or France (Paris), requires regional travel (up to 40%) with occasional global trips, and demands fluency in English. Proficiency in French, Dutch, or German is highly desirable to support multinational collaboration.
What You'll Do- Serve as a key EHS advisor to Energy leadership, project/construction managers, front-line staff, and contractors, providing education, tools, and support to enable effective EHS execution and foster a culture of safety.
- Identify, escalate, and mitigate key EHS risks and compliance issues across all phases of operations, ensuring risks are managed to an appropriate level through proactive field observations, assurance activities, and stakeholder collaboration.
- Act as an electrical and EHS technical expert for legal compliance and risk management in design, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of energy infrastructure.
- Conduct training sessions, inspections, event learnings, and emergency preparedness initiatives to influence daily operations and drive EHS improvements aligned with Tesla's vision and values for sustainable energy.
- Respond to EHS events by analyzing root causes, developing preventative actions, and promoting Human & Organizational Performance principles in collaboration with management and teams.
- Identify operational gaps and lead creative EHS solutions, including electrical safety aspects, through cross-functional teamwork and innovative problem-solving.
- Facilitate EHS meetings to share improvements, learnings, and performance metrics, while actively engaging in field activities to empower teams and minimize risks.
- Oversee contractual EHS deliverables, draft and review legal documents, and ensure pre-construction compliance with EMEA regulations (e.g., CDM 2015, EU-OSHA Directives 89/391/EEC, 92/57/EEC), facilitating seamless handoffs to construction and operational EHS teams.
- Play a key role in contractor management within EMEA, including onboarding, performance monitoring, and EHS alignment using Tesla's workforce management system.
What You'll Bring- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, CSP) highly preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive EHS experience in construction, EPC, or renewable energy projects, including managing EHS for construction initiatives, developing Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS), EHS Management Plans, and site setups, with proven expertise in EMEA regulations and fast-paced environments.
- In-depth knowledge of European EHS regulations (e.g., CDM 2015, EU Directives) and familiarity with global standards (e.g., ISO 45001), coupled with strong skills in document preparation, managing contractual deliverables, and collaborating with project and legal teams.
- CSP certification (or local equivalent) preferred, along with proficiency in the MS Office 365 Suite (including SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Teams).
- Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and multitasking skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, globally expanding organization using a 'first-principles' approach to innovation and safety.
