The Company

Brian Gow Roofing Supplies is a successful independent roofing supplies merchant with branches across Sussex. We are looking for a full time Yard Operative for our branch at Burgess Hill.

Main Duties and responsibilities

We are recruiting for a dedicated and reliable Yard Operative to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining the yards operations under the supervision of the Branch Manager ensuring that materials and equipment are organised and readily available. This position requires a proactive individual who can work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while adhering to safety protocols.

Your role will include, but not limited to:

  • Maintaining cleanliness and organisation of the yard ensuring all materials are stored safely.
  • Assisting with the loading and unloading of materials from all vehicles.
  • Support our drivers by preparing materials for dispatch and assisting with route planning if requested.
  • Conduct regular inspections of work equipment to ensure functionality and safety.
  • Collaborate with customers and team members to ensure smooth operations and timely completion of tasks, including the locating and loading of goods.
  • Complete all necessary admin paperwork.
  • Ensure H&S and company procedures are met at all times.

Our ideal candidate would meet the following criteria:

  • Previous yard experience in a similar role is advantageous but not essential; training will be given.
  • Roofing product knowledge desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Strong organisation skills and attention to detail are essential for maintaining an efficient working environment.
  • Self-motivated, organised, and punctual.
  • A team player that can work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A forklift licence would be desirable but not essential (training will be provided after a probationary period)

Hours: 07.30 – 17.00 Monday to Friday.
