Head of Finance Operations and Systems Lead

Baker Charles are working with a Global Listed Media company who are looking to hire a Head of Finance Operations and Systems Lead to take ownership of group-wide RTR processes while driving the maturity of their global finance function. This role sits at the intersection of
finance, data, and technology
, with a dual focus on optimising core finance processes and maximising the value of their ERP systems and financial data.

In this role, you'll oversee the end-to-end Record-to-Report cycle, ensuring
accuracy, compliance, and efficiency
across global entities. You'll lead initiatives to standardise, automate, and streamline processes, while also shaping the future of digital finance through enhanced system utilisation and data governance.

Operating as a bridge between operational finance, shared service centres, auditors, and senior stakeholders, this role offers the opportunity to
influence global finance transformation
and play a key role in delivering best-in-class reporting, control, and process excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Record-to-Report (RTR)

  • Oversee global RTR operations, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant financial reporting.
  • Own the end-to-end RTR process, including journals, reconciliations, intercompany accounting, hedging, and month-end close.
  • Manage intercompany processes to ensure accuracy and eliminate imbalances pre-close.
  • Supervise treasury accounting activities, maintaining compliance and integrity in financial data.
  • Support FX exposure reviews with Treasury, providing robust accounting data for hedging decisions.
  • Partner across Controllership, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, and Audit to resolve issues and meet business needs.
  • Define and track key RTR KPIs (e.g., close timelines, reconciliation accuracy, process efficiency).
  • Lead continuous improvement and automation initiatives across RTR processes.

Finance Systems, Data & Governance

  • Own financial master data management across ERP and consolidation systems, ensuring consistency in the chart of accounts, cost centres, and reporting hierarchies.
  • Chair the Finance Data Governance Board to manage structural and master data changes.
  • Partner with Finance and IT to maintain high standards of data quality, control, and integrity.
  • Act as functional owner for core finance systems (ERP, consolidation, planning, and reporting).
  • Develop and deliver the finance systems roadmap, ensuring scalability and strong integration with enterprise systems.
  • Lead system enhancements, automation projects, and upgrades with minimal disruption to operations.

Process Optimisation & Controls

  • Review and optimise end-to-end RTR and reporting processes to strengthen efficiency and control.
  • Champion automation and self-service reporting to reduce manual effort and improve insight delivery.
  • Ensure all finance processes and configurations meet compliance, audit, and regulatory requirements (e.g. SOX, IFRS).

Stakeholder Engagement & Change Management

  • Partner with Finance Leadership, IT, and business functions to align processes and systems with strategic priorities.
  • Lead change initiatives to embed digital finance capabilities and new ways of working.
  • Deliver training to enhance data literacy and system proficiency across the global finance community.

This role requires a fully qualified accountant who has strong operational finance and change management experience.

The role will require a lot of finance transformation and change.

Previous experience of improving processes in a global listed company is required.

Experience of implementing Workday would be hugely advantageous
