Chief Architect

London, Greater London, United Kingdom SymphonyAI Full time £80,000 - £150,000 per year
Introduction

SymphonyAI Financial Services builds advanced AI-powered software to combat financial crime and support compliance for global banks and institutions. As we transition from our flagship platform NetReveal to a next-generation SaaS-based product suite, we're evolving our architecture to support scale, speed, and innovation in highly regulated environments.

We're seeking a Chief Architect with deep AI expertise and proven experience building financial crime (FC) platforms (AML, sanctions, fraud, KYC/KYB, adverse media, investigations). You will lead our Architecture Chapter and set the endtoend technical strategy for an AIfirst, multitenant SaaS platform—spanning data fabric and ontology, streaming/realtime detection, MLOps and model risk management, LLM/RAG/multiagent capabilities, explainability, and auditability.

You will shape the evolution of both our legacy and nextgen platforms, ensuring robust, compliant, and performant solutions to build our new generation of products on an AI led compliance native architecture.

Job Description

What you'll do

Domain & Product Architecture Leadership

  • Own the enterprise/solution architecture for financial crime capabilities across transaction monitoring, sanctions/name screening, fraud, KYC/KYB, network analytics, and investigation & case management.

  • Define reference architectures and domain models (typologies, risk models, scenarios, detection rules, explainability artifacts) aligned to regulatory and customer outcomes.

  • Partner with Product to roadmap precision, recall, and analyst productivity improvements (alert reduction, prioritization, triage, auto disposition, workflow orchestration).

AI/ML & Agentic Systems

  • Embed AI by design: supervised/unsupervised/graph ML, LLMaugmented workflows (RAG, tooluse, multiagent), feature stores, online/offline model serving, drift detection, and continuous training.

  • Establish Model Risk Management (MRM) practices: documentation, validation, monitoring, challenger models, bias/fairness testing, and approvals.

  • Deliver explainability (e.g., SHAP/LIME/counterfactuals) suitable for auditors, regulators, and model governance committees.

Platform, Data & Integration

  • Lead a multitenant, cloudnative architecture (Azurefirst; AWS legacy support) using containers, eventdriven patterns, and APIfirst design.

  • Design a zero/nocopy, manageinplace data approach that integrates with bank data lakes (Delta/Iceberg/Hudi), while enforcing lineage, data contracts, quality, and observability.

  • Scale real-time detection pipelines (Kafka/Event Hubs, Flink/Spark Structured Streaming) with strict latency/throughput SLOs.

  • Advance knowledge graphs/ontologies and vector search for entity resolution, name matching, and adversemedia enrichment.

Security, Compliance & Reliability

  • Champion defenseindepth: zerotrust, OIDC/OAuth2, mTLS, secrets management, least privilege, encryption (at rest/in transit), and secure SDLC.

  • Ensure auditability and regulatory readiness (FATF, Wolfsberg, GDPR/DPDP, regional data residency), including immutable logs and end-to-end lineage.

  • Set SLOs and operability standards (observability, chaos/resiliency testing, capacity planning, blue/green, canary, rollback).

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead the Architecture Chapter (solution, security, data, performance). Govern standards, patterns, and reviews across squads.

  • Partner with Cloud/DevOps, Data/ML, Engineering, QA, and Delivery to ensure end-to-end solution integrity.

  • Engage with customers, regulators, and partners as a senior technology voice; support solution architecture in presales and complex deliveries.

What you'll bring:

  • 15+ years in enterprise software, including 5+ years in senior architecture leadership.
  • Must have: 7+ years building or integrating financial crime systems (AML transaction monitoring, sanctions/name screening, fraud, KYC/KYB) for Tier1/2 banks or RegTech vendors.
  • Proven delivery of scalable SaaS or platform products on Azure (AKS, Event Hubs, Postgres, Azure AI/ML, OpenAI, Key Vault, Monitor); AWS & GCP experience a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of distributed systems, streaming, microservices, and event-driven design.
  • Hands-on with AI/ML platforms: feature stores, model serving (online/batch), MLOps, monitoring, and drift detection.
  • Practical experience with LLMs (prompting, function/tool use, RAG, vector DBs) and graph/ER (entity resolution, network features, knowledge graphs).
  • Strong command of FC domain specifics: typologies, thresholds vs. risk scoring, suppression/tuning, fuzzy/phonetic matching and transliteration, screening operations, case triage, SAR/DAML workflows.
  • Security and performance architecture for regulated industries; evidence of auditability, lineage, and model governance.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication across executive, product, engineering, and customer teams.
  • Preferred/Bonus Experience

    • Building AI-first products

    • Passion for open-source tools and contributing to the AI/Dev community

    • Past startup or founding experience

    • LLM frameworks (such as LangChain, LlamaIndex)

    • Workflow engines, automation tools, or no-code platforms

    • APIs & system integrations

    • Familiarity with vector databases, embeddings, and prompt engineering best practices

    • Financial crime, AML, fraud detection, or compliance systems expertise

    • Familiarity with SAFE/agile delivery at scale

    • Contributions to open-source, industry standards, or architecture frameworks

    • Public speaking, technical blogging, or community engagement
