Hours: 35 hours per week (Monday–Friday) – Full Time (52 weeks)

Purpose of Role
To provide pastoral, practical, and motivational support to KS3–KS4 and NEET learners, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve personal and social growth.
This role blends the ethos of youth work, mentoring, and learning support — ideal for individuals passionate about making a difference in young people's lives through relationship-based, creative engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Learner Support and Mentoring
- Build positive, trusting relationships with learners to support attendance, engagement, and wellbeing.
- Deliver group and 1:1 mentoring sessions focusing on confidence, teamwork, and emotional regulation.
- Act as daily point of contact for learners, supporting behaviour management and restorative conversations.
- Support tutors during lessons and outdoor sessions, adapting activities for SEND and SEMH needs.
- Accompany and supervise learners during off-site and community learning activities.
Personal Development and Enrichment
- Co-deliver enrichment activities such as outdoor challenges, sports, arts, volunteering, and enterprise.
- Model resilience, empathy, and professionalism to inspire learners.
- Record and track personal development progress (RARPA or equivalent).
Safeguarding and Welfare
- Be alert to safeguarding concerns and report promptly to the DSL / DDSL.
- Contribute to learner risk assessments, behaviour plans, and wellbeing reviews.
- Promote safe working practices across indoor and outdoor environments.
Communication and Partnership
- Liaise with families, social workers, and school staff to ensure consistent support for each learner.
- Attend team meetings and contribute to learner reviews.
- Work collaboratively with the Outdoor Education Centre team to deliver "learning without walls."
Person Specification
Essential
- Experience working with young people in education, youth work, or community settings
- Understanding of SEND, SEMH, or disengaged learner needs
- Strong communication, empathy, and conflict-resolution skills
- Ability to model positive behaviour and maintain professional boundaries
- High emotional intelligence and resilience
- Commitment to Petty Pool's values: Brave, Ambitious, Collaborative, Creative
Desirable
- Qualification in Youth Work, Mentoring, or Education Support.
- Experience in alternative provision or outdoor learning
- First Aid or Outdoor Activity qualification
