Research Associate: Automating Measurements of Children's Hips from Radiographs

The Division of Informatics Imaging and Data Science wish to appoint a Research Associate to an exciting project developing a system to make measurements of children's hips from digital radiographs. This is part of a collaborative project aiming to help children with Cerebral Palsy by diagnosing hip problems early.

The successful applicant will use machine learning techniques to automatically identify the outlines of bones in the hip joint and make clinically useful geometric measurements. They will perform extensive experiments to evaluate the performance of the system on clinical images. As part of a multidisciplinary team, they will work closely with clinicians, patient representatives and our partner company to prepare the system for inclusion in a software tool to be registered as a medical device.

The successful applicant will join a supportive and inclusive research environment that values collaboration, innovation, and real-world impact. They will have opportunities to contribute to impactful publications, present at conferences, and gain experience in translating research into certified medical software.

Applicants should have a strong background in machine learning, computer vision, and medical image analysis, and experience of working with clinical data and Python-based tools.
