About the roleThe Department of Chemistry is seeking two proactive and collaborative Senior HR Officers to deliver a high-quality, customer-focused HR service across one of Oxford's largest departments.Reporting to the Deputy Head of HR, you will manage day-to-day HR operations and support two HR Officers. You'll partner with managers to provide practical, solutions-focused advice that helps teams perform effectively while ensuring compliance with University policies and employment law.Key responsibilities include leading and developing the HR team, advising on employment matters, overseeing recruitment and onboarding, supporting workforce planning and change management, and ensuring compliance across payroll, right-to-work, and data processes. You'll also contribute to departmental projects such as Athena Swan, immigration audits, and HR process improvements.You'll join a supportive and professional HR team that values partnership, integrity, and innovation. This varied role offers the opportunity to shape how we work and make a meaningful contribution to a world-leading academic department.About youYou are an experienced HR professional with strong operational and advisory skills, a solid understanding of UK employment law and visa regulations, and a track record of managing and developing teams. You communicate clearly, build positive relationships, and approach challenges with a proactive, collaborative mindset. Highly organised and detail-focused, you use HR systems effectively to deliver insights and ensure compliance. CIPD qualified (or working towards it), you're committed to continuous improvement and ideally bring experience from higher education or the University of Oxford.The post will be based in the Department of Chemistry.We are looking for someone to start in this role as soon as possible.Application ProcessApplications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your application.
