Railway Maintenance Planning Engineer

A Railway Maintenance Planning Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of railway infrastructure. Job Overview

A Railway Maintenance Planning Engineer is responsible for developing and executing maintenance plans and schedules for railway infrastructure and equipment. They work closely with maintenance teams, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure the railway network operates safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Maintenance Planning

Develop comprehensive maintenance plans for railway tracks, switches, signals, bridges, tunnels, rolling stock, and other assets. Consider factors such as maintenance intervals, asset condition, and regulatory requirements.

  1. Scheduling

Create maintenance schedules that minimize disruptions to railway operations. Coordinate maintenance activities to optimize resource allocation and minimize downtime.

  1. Asset Inspection

Conduct regular inspections of railway assets to assess their condition and identify maintenance needs. Use data and inspection reports to inform maintenance plans.

  1. Budgeting

Assist in the preparation of maintenance budgets. Monitor and control maintenance costs while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

  1. Regulatory Compliance

Ensure that all maintenance activities adhere to relevant safety and regulatory guidelines, including those set by railway authorities and government agencies.

  1. Data Analysis

Utilize data analytics tools and software to analyze maintenance data, predict equipment failures, and optimize maintenance strategies.

  1. Vendor Management

Collaborate with external contractors and suppliers for maintenance and repair work. Evaluate vendor performance and ensure contract compliance.

Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inspection reports, and equipment history. Prepare reports for management and regulatory agencies.

  1. Emergency Response

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. A master's degree may be preferred for more senior positions.
  2. A minimum of 15-year experience in railway assets maintenance or maintenance planning.
  3. Professional engineering licensure or certification relevant to railway maintenance (e.g., Professional Engineer or Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional).
  4. Experience in railway maintenance or related fields, preferably in a planning or engineering capacity.
  5. Strong knowledge of railway systems, equipment, and safety standards.
  6. Proficiency in maintenance planning software, data analytics tools, and project management software.
  7. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  8. Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  9. Attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure.
