Job Description

A vacancy has arisen within the Reactors engineering team for a senior engineer (Process or Electrical Controls and Instrumentation (E,C&I) discipline, this is a temporary role for 12 months. The purpose of the post is to manage and deliver the engineering process and the job holder will provide technical oversight and engineering quality.

The role will lead a multi-disciplinary design team for an alkali metal treatment project. The successful candidate will be a Senior engineer with extensive experience in leading a multi-disciplinary design for technically complex projects, providing technical leadership, focused on ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables.

Responsibilities:

  • Control and develop technical engineering strategies, plans and procedures

  • Deliver the engineering design package and engineering substantiation for an alkali metal treatment project

  • Develop and execute an engineering and safety case delivery strategy, optimising plans to respond to changes when necessary

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team of engineers

  • Apply health, safety, environmental and waste management processes with engineering activities taking advice where necessary from appropriate specialists

  • Validate the completion of activities to ensure compliance with procedures, legislation and quality standards

  • Liaise effectively with regulators and stakeholders on specific projects

  • Design and evaluate the technical governance of projects

  • Undertake project governance roles as required

  • Establish and maintain Design Authority arrangements

  • Identify resource requirements to deliver engineering tasks

  • Develop an effective technical organisation to manage fit for purpose engineering design and safety project delivery in support of the Site Performance Plan

  • Manage the preparation, approval and issue of technical specifications

  • Support the project in the delivery of projects/programmes of work and sanction approvals

  • Identify, validate and approve engineering solutions for projects

  • Perform the responsibilities of Authorisations relevant to post

  • Manage Dounreay staff as a Line Manager

Aptitudes and Experience:

  • Degree in engineering or equivalent: a process, electrical or controls system degree would be preferred

  • Extensive experience in leading a multi-disciplinary design for technically complex projects

  • Extensive experience in engineering

  • Strong technical leadership

  • Experience in engineering substantiation

  • Previous experience and the ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of configuration management

  • Demonstrable practical and theoretical problem-solving ability

  • Undertake responsible engineer duties

  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team

  • The ability to communicate effectively with staff/contractors at all levels is essential

  • Good interpersonal, communication and presentation skills

  • Self-motivated and assertive

  • Ability to apply engineering processes to achieve engineering solutions
