Salary: £24, actual per year)

Hours: 37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (term time)

Contract: 12 months fixed term contract

Location: Peterborough College

Reports to: Personal Development Group Lead

What's the role all about?

As a Student Mentor, you'll play a vital role in the personal development and wellbeing of our students. You'll deliver engaging weekly Personal Development sessions, support a caseload of learners with pastoral care, and work closely with curriculum and support teams to keep students motivated, safe, and on track to succeed.

This is a rewarding, student-facing role for someone who wants to make a meaningful difference in young people's lives – especially those who may be vulnerable, need a little extra support, or face challenges outside of college.

What you'll be doing:

• Planning and delivering weekly Personal Development sessions tailored to your students' needs
• Providing day-to-day pastoral support and signposting students to internal services
• Monitoring and improving attendance, working alongside curriculum staff and student services
• Supporting retention and progression by identifying 'at risk' students and putting early interventions in place
• Helping students develop life skills, confidence and positive attitudes as they prepare for adulthood
• Attending EHCP reviews, safeguarding referrals, and curriculum meetings as required
• Supporting college events like open days, taster sessions and enrolment

What we're looking for:

We'd love to hear from people who have:

• Experience supporting young people in education or mentoring roles
• A Level 3 teaching-related qualification (or willingness to work towards one)
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• The ability to manage sensitive situations with confidence and care
• A genuine interest in supporting young people from all walks of life
• Strong organisational and IT skills to track attendance and progress

This role would suit someone with a background in education, youth work, student support or coaching – especially if you've worked in an FE setting.
