Year 10 Reading Scholars – an intensive, longitudinal intervention for Year 10 pupils

In this post the main part of your role will be to plan, deliver & evaluate the university's flagship widening participation programme, the Reading Scholars (Year 10) a, a key aspect of our widening participation commitments as set out in our Access and Participation Plan with the Office for Students. You will also support with the delivery of the Year 12 Reading Scholars programme. Additionally, you will contribute to the wider team delivery of a programme of Information, Advice and Guidance to potential students.

Year 10 Reading Scholars is a multi-event, year-long intervention for Year 10 pupils from a range of local and regional schools. The programme consists of a range of on-campus and in school activities which culminate in a project submission and celebration event on our campus. This programme has a strong Study Skills focus and is a key intervention target in our Access and Participation plan, supporting learners to achieve their full potential in Key Stage 4. A theory of change and evaluation plan is already in place for this activity with stretching targets.

The role involves working at pace in a fast-moving environment; helping deliver projects and managing resources; personally representing and 'selling' the University to potential students and their parents and teachers; and liaising with a strong network of internal and external stakeholders.

You will have:

• Excellent project management skills
• Understanding of the UK Secondary and Tertiary Education systems
• Experience of working with schools and/or young people in the UK
• Knowledge and understanding of the widening participation agenda within Higher Education in the UK
• Experience of meeting strategic objectives
