Job Title: Welfare & First Aider
Reports to: Duty Manager / General Manager
Location: CIRCUIT Southampton
Hours: Late-night shifts (typically 10pm–3:30am, weekend focus)
Contract Type: Part-time Pay: Min £12 per hour
Purpose of the Role
To provide professional first aid and welfare support to customers and staff within the venue, ensuring a safe, caring, and compliant environment in line with licensing objectives and venue policies.
This role is vital in protecting the health, safety, and wellbeing of guests — particularly those who may become unwell, intoxicated, distressed, or otherwise vulnerable during their visit.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor guest welfare throughout the night, identifying anyone who appears unwell, intoxicated, distressed, or vulnerable.
Provide first aid treatment and ensure appropriate medical care is delivered or escalated when required.
Manage the Welfare Area, ensuring it remains calm, clean, and equipped (first aid kit, water, wipes, tissues, PPE, sick bowls, etc.).
Record all incidents accurately in the Intoxication & Welfare Log, noting CCTV references and actions taken.
Liaise with door supervisors, bar staff, and management to ensure the safe handling and ejection (if appropriate) of guests.
Coordinate with ambulance, police, or Safe Space teams when necessary and assist in handover of care.
Support vulnerable individuals under the "Ask for Angela" or safeguarding procedures.
Maintain confidentiality and treat all guests with dignity and respect.
Attend regular training sessions on first aid, safeguarding, vulnerability awareness, and intoxication management.
Assist with crowd safety during busy periods and help maintain calm during incidents.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
Valid First Aid at Work qualification (or higher).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to remain calm, confident, and empathetic under pressure.
Understanding of customer care, safeguarding, and confidentiality.
Reliable, punctual, and professional appearance.
Desirable:
Previous experience in nightlife, festivals, events, or hospitality venues.
Training in Mental Health First Aid or Vulnerability Awareness.
Familiarity with Ask for Angela, Licensing Objectives, or Best Bar None standards.
Background in security, emergency services, or health & social care
