Postdoctoral Research Associate Grade 7
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team in the Department of Molecular & Clinical Cancer Medicine. This 5 year, 0.8 fte position is supported by Northwest Cancer Research and offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of personalised treatment for gastric cancer.
This role is integral to our mission of translating discovery science into therapeutic applications for cancer patients by enabling effective collaborations between scientists and clinicians to improve cancer detection and treatment. A primary focus will be supporting the establishment and expansion of a biobank of patient-derived organoids (PDOs) from upper gastrointestinal (UGI) cancers. This biobank will serve as an advanced platform to predict individual patient responses to current standard-of-care therapies and will also support our longer-term ambition to perform personalised high-throughput drug screening. Additionally, it will provide a valuable resource for investigating novel molecular mechanisms underlying gastric cancer pathogenesis, with the goal of identifying new therapeutic targets.
You will work closely with academic staff, clinicians and project partners to conduct both independent and collaborative research, contribute to the development of PDO infrastructure in Liverpool, and support the wider objectives of the research team. You will also contribute to publications and grant applications. Training will be provided as needed.
You should have a PhD degree in a biomedical science-related subject and significant experience in gastrointestinal organoid culture and biobanking.
If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.
The post is available at 0.8 FTE for 5 years.
