Health and Safety Manager

Exeter EX, United Kingdom Exeter City Council Full time

Why this role matters

Safety is the foundation of a thriving workplace. In this role, you'll help shape a culture where people feel confident, cared for, and protected—whether they're in the office, out in the community, or working remotely. You'll be a key part of making sure our teams can do their best work in safe, supportive environments.

What you'll be doing

You'll lead on practical health & safety initiatives across a diverse range of services. From reviewing risk assessments and supporting incident investigations, to promoting wellbeing and embedding a proactive safety culture—you'll be hands-on, visible, and solutions-focused. You'll also help ensure compliance with legislation and support managers to take ownership of H&S in their areas.

Who we're looking for

You'll bring solid experience in health & safety—ideally within a complex or public sector environment—and hold a relevant qualification such as NEBOSH or equivalent. You'll be confident working with legislation, but just as comfortable engaging with people. A strong communicator and influencer, you'll know how to turn policy into practice and support others to do the same. If you're proactive, collaborative, and passionate about keeping people safe, we'd love to hear from you.

Why join us

We're a progressive council with a strong focus on people and innovation. You'll be part of a supportive team that values fresh thinking, inclusion, and making a real impact. We're investing in smarter ways of working—and that includes how we look after our people.

What next?
