GCO £74,340 - £81,774, plus GCO Pension and GCO Terms.

Reporting to the Head of Operator Competitions (G6) for Custodial Services, the post holder will be responsible for managing a multi-disciplinary team of delivery partners and external professional services, working alongside other functions including HMPPS commissioning, finance and legal to deliver these complex and exciting projects. Building on the success of delivering new operator contracts at HMP Five Wells and HMP Fosse Way, investment in outsources operator services in Justice plays a pivotal role in delivery of new rehabilitative prison places.

You will work with the business to ensure commercial compliance, providing support to Senior Responsible Owners where required and ensuring continuity of services for our customers. You will drive performance from the professional services that support the projects.

Technical skills

We'll assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:

  • Demonstrates understanding of risk allocation and risk management in complex projects;
  • Strong leadership skills and experience of leading individuals and multi-disciplinary teams effectively in delivery of large scale or complex commercial projects;
  • Recent experience of working within a Justice sector commercial team or environment. Demonstrates basic knowledge of PFI projects with skills in procuring, negotiating and delivering both services and/or construction contracts;
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders, and demonstrate flexibility in response to changing priorities and challenges;
  • Demonstrable capability in managing complex, high value projects;
  • Develops sound commercial strategies with consideration for Departmental aims and objectives, understanding market context, learnings and opportunities for innovation.
