London Area, United Kingdom British Heart Foundation Full time £60,000 - £120,000 per year

British Heart Foundation (BHF) is the largest and most successful UK charity retailer with a fast-growing retail estate comprising circa 680 stores, generating funds for lifesaving research into heart and circulatory diseases. Our property estate includes shops of up to 20,000 sq ft across high streets, shopping centres and, increasingly, retail parks. This also includes responsibility for our regional offices and warehouses.

About the role

As Head of Property, you'll be responsible for:

  • Leading the development and execution of our property strategy, ensuring our retail estate thrives in a fast-changing environment.
  • Managing acquisitions, closures, and lease negotiations to maximise flexibility and value.
  • Overseeing a high-performing team covering acquisitions, leasing, and estate management.
  • Collaborating with senior leaders to deliver a holistic, cradle-to-grave property approach.
  • Ownership of a significant annual budget (circa £30m) and ensure operational excellence.
  • Building strong relationships with internal and external partners, including the Charity Retail Association.

About you

We are looking for a Chartered Surveyor (MRICS/FRICS) or someone with equivalent experience in Land/Estate Management.

You will also have:

  • Proven expertise in managing large retail property portfolios and delivering new store rollouts
  • Have a deep understanding of property law, landlord and tenant legislation, and current market trends.
  • Experience in managing large retail property portfolios.
  • Strong commercial acumen and budget management skills.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships and experience of dealing with Agents, Landlords, Investors and Developers.
  • Excellent leadership and influencing skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work to deadlines.

Working arrangements

This is a hybrid role, where your work will be split between your home and at least one day per week, on average, in our London Office. This may vary from time to time, so you will need to work in a flexible way to unlock your best work for our cause.

Interview process

1st stage interviews will take place on Tues 25th November (via MS Teams). 2nd stage interviews will be held at our London head office (Greater London House NW1 7AW) on Tues 2nd December. This interview will consist of a Q&A and presentation task.
