Role
We're EDLA, a small but passionate boutique landscape architecture practice based in Canterbury. As chartered members of the Landscape Institute, we work on a wide range of exciting projects that shape the places people live, work, and enjoy.
Curious to see what we do and how we think? Take a look at our projects and approach here:
Landscape architecture is a fantastic, creative, and meaningful career - it combines design, planning, and environmental awareness to make a real difference to the world around us. If you'd like to learn more about the profession, check out this overview from the Landscape Institute: Landscape Architecture Careers.
The Role – Seeing the bigger picture We're looking for someone who loves to think creatively about places – to improve the quality of natural and built environment by designing and planning outdoor spaces that are both functional and environmentally sustainable.
We believe in shaping places that bring people closer to nature. We design external spaces; our projects range from a football training ground for Millwall FC to a surfing lagoon in Betteshanger Park -and everything from rooftop gardens in London to new parks and play spaces across the south-east.
As a Graduate Landscape Architect, you'll be part of a small, supportive team where you'll quickly gain hands-on experience and learn from Chartered Landscape Architects. You'll help us shape thoughtful, sensitive landscapes - working on real projects that make a positive difference. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who loves both drawing and details.
Duties and responsibilities
You'll support our team in a variety of tasks, including:
· Assist colleagues in the preparation of drawing landscape plans for planning applications, tender and construction
· Helping with administrative and technical tasks - issuing drawings, organising files, and keeping projects running smoothly.
· Joining site visits to understand landscapes first-hand.
· Creating photo montages.
· Supporting project leads to meet deadlines and deliver quality work.
· Building great working relationships with clients and consultants.
· Preparing sketch designs on projects
You'll get plenty of support and mentoring - and the chance to grow your confidence, skills, and professional understanding at your own pace.
Skills and experience
You don't need to have all the experience yet - we're looking for enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to learn.
Ideally, you'll have:
· A degree in landscape architecture, architecture, geography or a related subject.
· Draw confidently by hand and in CAD
· Enjoy working on creative landscape design and concept drawings
· Can write clearly and enjoy problem-solving through design
· Are curious, collaborative, and ready to grow
· Good communication skills - both written and verbal - and the ability to express ideas clearly.
· An interest in nature, ecology, and people-first design.
· Attention to detail and a methodical approach to tasks.
· A positive attitude and the ability to work both independently and as part of a small team.
· Fluent use of AutoCAD, Adobe Suite and SketchUp.
· Basic understanding of Revit/BIM.
· Basic understanding of SuDS.
· A full UK driving licence.
Who You Are
We think you'll enjoy working with us if you're:
· Friendly, approachable, and confident communicating your ideas.
· Motivated, curious, and ready to grow.
· Comfortable working in a close-knit, collaborative team.
· Passionate about making a real impact through thoughtful landscape design.
