What if your next role placed you at the heart of a whole-council commitment to fairness, prevention, and better health for our communities?
If you have a passion for improving health outcomes for local people and want to play a meaningful role in creating fairness, opportunity, and better health across North East Lincolnshire, this could be the perfect opportunity for you. We are looking for someone motivated by the idea of working in a council that is transforming how it tackles inequality through its commitment to becoming a Marmot Place. Could your skills, passion, and drive help us deliver high-quality public health work that makes a real difference to people's lives?
What will your day look like?
As a Public Health Officer in North East Lincolnshire, you will play a key supporting role in our commitment to becoming a Marmot Place, working in partnership with the UCL Institute of Health Equity—the national experts behind the Marmot Principles. You'll work closely with the Principal for Quality and Assurance and the wider public health team to ensure our programmes are well coordinated, high quality, and aligned with our ambition of improving healthy life expectancy. Currently, healthy life expectancy varies by over a decade between some of our communities, and you will be part of the system-wide effort to reduce these inequalities.
Your day-to-day work will include managing forward plans to ensure key public health actions, reports, and assurance processes are delivered on time. You will coordinate Portfolio Holder briefings and internal team meetings, support quality and assurance functions across public health, and help track progress while maintaining clear information flow. You'll prepare high-quality reports, agendas, briefing papers, and summaries for senior officers and elected members. Collaboration will be key, as you work with teams across the emerging Public Health Council model—including children's services, housing, transport, and environment—to embed Marmot principles throughout the organisation. You will also undertake research, horizon scanning, and evidence gathering to inform decision-making and programme development, while contributing to evaluation and continuous improvement across the service.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who is motivated by fairness, prevention, and improving outcomes for local people. You should be organised, forward-thinking, and confident in managing competing priorities. Excellent communication skills are essential, along with the ability to produce clear, accurate agendas, reports, and briefing documents. You'll enjoy working collaboratively with colleagues across the Council, NHS, voluntary sector, and wider system, and be able to analyse and interpret information, spotting emerging issues and opportunities. Strong attention to detail, particularly in assurance, planning, and coordination, is important. You should work well both independently and as part of a supportive team, and be committed to continuous professional development with an interest in building a public health career. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys connecting people, improving processes, and supporting system-wide public health programmes.
Why join us?
This is an exciting time to join North East Lincolnshire Council's Public Health team. We have committed to becoming a Marmot Place, embedding the eight Marmot Principles across the whole council and local system. We are working with the UCL Institute of Health Equity, giving you exposure to national thought leaders in reducing inequalities. You will be part of a growing Public Health Council approach where every service contributes to improving health and wellbeing. Your work will support senior leaders, influence strategic decisions, and contribute to meaningful change for local communities. Join us and be part of a whole-system movement to create a healthier, fairer future for everyone in North East Lincolnshire.
