Southampton, Southampton, United Kingdom University Hospital Southampton NHS FT Full time

Job Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Please see below for detailed job description of the role.

Main duties of the job

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic pharmacist to join our expanding Technical Services team during a transformative period. This is a pivotal time to become part of our friendly, forward-thinking department as we transition to a brand-new, state-of-the-art cleanroom facility and move towards becoming a licensed GMP Specials manufacturing unit.

Our current Technical Services Unit (TSU) operates under Section 10 exemption and provides a vital Centralised Intravenous Additive Service (CIVAS) and Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) service, supplying safe, high-quality aseptic products to neonatal, paediatric, and adult patients across University Hospital Southampton (UHS).

With the new off-site aseptic preparation hub set to open in 2025, we are undergoing significant expansion, creating exciting opportunities for professional growth and development. You'll be joining a dynamic team of dedicated staff and will play a key role in the implementation of new processes, quality improvements, and service developments in line with Good Manufacturing Practice.

We are committed to supporting your career with extensive training, continuous professional development opportunities, and a clear pathway for progression within aseptic services and pharmaceutical manufacturing. Whether you're an experienced technical services pharmacist or looking to take the next step in your career, we'll provide the support and mentorship you need to thrive.

Working for our organisation

University Hospital Southampton is one of England's largest acute teaching Trusts, offering a wide range of learning and development opportunities to support your career aspirations.

Located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London, Southampton offers an ideal setting to live and work, with the New Forest, South Downs and Jurassic Coast.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalizing your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

At UHS we're committed to providing a flexible working environment where possible. Whether you are balancing family, study, or your wellbeing with your career, we want to support you so you can help our patients.

At UHS, we proudly champion individuality, recognizing that outstanding care is only possible with a diverse, inclusive team. We're committed to creating an anti-racist, anti-discriminatory environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and empowered to make a meaningful impact in our communities. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to join us in building a healthcare community where everyone can belong, thrive, and contribute.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
This post will be based at Adanac park with cross site working at UHS. This is a band 6-7 progressive post. We welcome applicants both with and without technical experience. Applicants will be considered for AFC band 7 based on existing experience.

Working alongside the Accountable TSU Pharmacist, your key roles will be to:

  • Assist and supervise the production of Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) and CIVAS including reviewing prescriptions for clinical appropriateness and undertaking the check and release of finished products.
  • Support the set-up, production and final release of clinical trials ensuring that GCP is followed.
  • Supervise and support the trainee pharmacists and foundation pharmacists who rotate through TSU.
