Role Overview:

As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans to patients within a variety of clinical settings, including inpatient, outpatient, or community-based care. You will work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, including psychologists, nurses, and social workers, to ensure optimal care for our patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for patients with a range of mental health conditions, including mood disorders, anxiety, psychosis, and personality disorders.
  • Develop and implement personalized treatment plans, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
  • Deliver consultations to multidisciplinary teams, ensuring collaborative decision-making in complex cases.
  • Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and supervision sessions to discuss patient progress and treatment outcomes.
  • Offer expert advice and guidance to junior staff and trainees, fostering an environment of continuous learning.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date clinical records in accordance with legal and ethical guidelines.
  • Stay informed about current best practices in psychiatry and mental health care, contributing to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide support and guidance to patients and their families, helping them navigate treatment options and improving their overall well-being.
  • Participate in on-call duties (if applicable), offering psychiatric support during emergencies.

Requirements:

  • Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) with a specialization in psychiatry.
  • Certification/Qualification in Psychiatry (e.g., MRCPsych, ABPN, or equivalent).
  • Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience as a psychiatrist, with a significant portion in a consultant role.
  • Proven experience in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of a wide range of mental health conditions.
  • Strong understanding of current psychiatric treatments, including pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to provide leadership and guidance to junior clinicians.
  • Knowledge of relevant clinical guidelines, best practices, and legal requirements in psychiatry.
  • Strong commitment to patient care and ethical practice.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in specialized psychiatric areas, such as child and adolescent psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, or old age psychiatry.
  • Experience with research, audit, or teaching roles.
  • Ability to offer supervision or training to junior staff members.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
