Site Maintenance Technician (Part Time)

Hesley Wood Activity Centre

Hesley Wood is located in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and is a 132 acre estate comprising of mixed woodland and camping fields. It has purpose built residential centres that sleep up to 110 people.

The activity centre is owned and operated by South Yorkshire County Scout Council.

Hesley Wood holds, Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) and Adventuremark accreditations, recognising it as a provider of quality, safely managed educational experiences for young people.

Outline of Role

To be responsible for the maintenance of buildings, campsites, activities, woodlands and all equipment required to maintain the previous. To ensure all plant and equipment is maintained to the highest standards, minimising down time, maximising asset life cycles.

Support Hesley Wood Scout Activity Centre and South Yorkshire County Scout Council events, several events are held throughout the year, the Site Maintenance Technician will take an active role in the setup, support during the event to ensure all services and facilities are maintained and dismantling after events.

The role is line managed by the Facilities Manager.

JOB TITLE: Maintenance Technician

  • PURPOSE OF THE JOB
  • To provide a customer focussed service and ensure all plant and equipment are maintained to the highest standards, minimising down time, maximising asset life cycles.
  • Delivering a value for money provision of building services.
  • Delivering a value for money provision of campsite services.
  • Use expertise and experience to reduce Hesley Wood Scout Activity Centre reliance on contracted works.
  • PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support events with regards setup, during and takedown.
  • Be responsible for the maintenance of site machinery and equipment
  • Be responsible for the maintenance/cleaning of buildings
  • Be responsible for the maintenance of campsites
  • Compete any maintenance required on activities
  • Plan and undertake approved minor repairs/improvements
  • Be responsible for the grounds and woodland maintenance schedules

OTHER INFORMATION

The nature of this post and the environment will require you to work weekends and evenings depending on demand, this will usually be during events and on peak weekends.

The role requires an understanding of carpentry, metalwork, plumbing and electrical.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

  • Ability to fault find and complete appropriate repairs and modifications E
  • Working knowledge of statutory and legislative requirements and codes of practice HD
  • Ability to set up, test and maintain audio, IT, visual equipment D
  • Working knowledge of pipe work systems, heating and other piped services D
  • Demonstrate experience of working in a building service maintenance environment E
  • Experience in undertaking reactive and planned preventative maintenance when and where necessary E

What's in it for me

The salary is £10,726.56 per annum (Equivalent to £12.98 per hour).

18 hours per week over 3 days to include one Saturday per month.

Overtime will be paid at the end of each month (max payable overtime per month 45hrs)

Training will be provided where required.

Holiday entitlement: 28 days per year plus bank holidays pro rata.

3% Employer pension contribution.

Probation period 4 months.
