Chef – Full-Time (minimum 40 hours per week)

Salary: £28,500 per year

Location: The Wyvern Taunton CIC

We're looking for a full-time Chef to join our small, friendly team at The Wyvern Taunton CIC. This is a key role for someone who enjoys cooking with fresh ingredients, takes pride in consistency, and wants the chance to shape a menu rather than simply follow one.

You'll be the lead cook in a compact but well-equipped kitchen, preparing a mix of core dishes and developing weekly specials. As we move toward offering more freshly prepared food, we're looking for a Chef with the skill and confidence to help deliver that direction.

What you'll be doing

  • Preparing and cooking dishes during service periods, which currently take place mainly in the evenings and at weekends, with occasional daytime work for events or future daytime openings.
  • Maintaining consistent quality, presentation and timing during service
  • Developing specials and contributing to menu planning
  • Ensuring excellent food safety, hygiene and allergen management
  • Handling stock rotation and supporting cost-effective purchasing
  • Working closely with the General Manager to strengthen fresh-food delivery

What we're looking for

  • Proven experience as a Chef in a pub, café, restaurant, bistro or similar professional kitchen
  • Ability to run a service independently while maintaining high standards
  • Creativity with fresh ingredients and confidence adapting recipes or using surplus produce
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage pace during busy periods
  • A positive, reliable, calm and collaborative approach to work
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (minimum)
  • Good allergen awareness and commitment to safe kitchen practices
  • Understanding of temperature checks, cleaning schedules and basic compliance
  • Good communication skills with both kitchen and front-of-house teams
  • Ability to manage the physical aspects of the role, including lifting stock and being on your feet during service
