Role Description
We currently have a great opportunity to work in our Mid-Market Portfolio Steering team as a Senior Portfolio Analyst, with a particular focus on Property & Casualty lines of business.

The Mid-Market Portfolio Steering team sits within the Technical department and works closely with the Underwriting Account teams, Underwriting branches, Pricing, Data, Claims and Actuarial teams to provide recommendations and decisions to support the profitable management of the Mid-Market lines of business.

This role would be perfect for anyone with P&C experience and analytical capability looking to be more involved in strategic activities, gain exposure to senior stakeholders and looking to deploy your analytical capabilities whilst using your underwriting expertise.

You will contribute to the development, production and analysis of data, using appropriate data feeds to create actionable business insight to the P&C teams, providing greatest depth of analysis and insight to support portfolio decision making.

Salary Information
Pay: Circa £52,000 per year.

Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.

About You
Your role will vary day to day, but here is a bit of what you can expect:

  • Proactively accessing, manipulating and exploring data to understand portfolio performance, develop and test hypotheses and generate insight to support Underwriting Account Teams to steer portfolios.
  • Producing and presenting steering insights on a regular basis to underwriting teams, informing stakeholders how best to act on current trends affecting the portfolio
  • Develop and run a regular rhythm of portfolio reporting to a range of stakeholders around the business.
  • Working with data teams to produce and create core data sets for new analysis, tooling and products, including liaising with the underwriting regions and account teams to understand emerging data needs
  • Work alongside the pricing team to shape, develop and embed new and existing pricing methodologies into the portfolio rhythm, and to develop appropriate trading tactics using price as a lever.

Essential Skills
We don't expect you to know everything from day one, but the following will enable you to hit the ground running:

  • Experience working within a Commercial Lines P&C underwriting environment with strong financial awareness and a robust understanding of how to successfully manage top and bottom line performance of a portfolio.
  • Understanding of P&C insurance data and metrics, and how these flow through to results and performance monitoring.
  • Previous experience in account/portfolio management or pricing of Commercial Portfolios preferred, but not essential.
  • Able to establish and maintain credible internal and external relationships with key stakeholders
  • Able to use initiative and approach challenges innovatively
  • Experience working in data and analytical environments, preferably within commercial lines insurance.
  • Strong experience working in Microsoft Excel, with knowledge or understanding of SAS or SQL or equivalent programming languages preferable, but not essential.
  • Proven ability to understand key underwriting, pricing and actuarial concepts and principles.
