EDT Adults
Take charge of a fast-moving, high-impact service and lead by example.
As a Social Work Team Manager, you'll lead our Adults out-of-hours service, supporting staff with working across our three boroughs as they respond to emergency adult referrals for a range of situations for local residents and stakeholders, and providing appropriate interventions in supporting people to manage their health and safety, and promote their wellbeing.
Working Style:
You'll be based in the Borough for a minimum of 2 per days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community. Whether you're working on the frontline or behind the scenes, you'll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents' lives.
What you'll be doing:
In this role, you'll lead the Tri-Borough Emergency Duty Service – our out-of-hours social care provision for adults. Every shift brings something new, and you'll be right at the centre of it all: supporting the team, managing risks, and making sure decisions are rooted in care, competence and compliance with the law.
You'll manage a skilled team of AMHPs/Social Workers and Triage officers who handle complex, urgent cases. That includes leading regular handovers, overseeing safeguarding referrals, managing rotas and stepping in on the central AMHP rota once a month. You'll also represent the service in key multi-agency forums, building strong relationships with the police, NHS and other partners.
Alongside the day-to-day, you'll lead on service improvement, work collaboratively with our partners and stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery across the Boroughs and support the Service Manager on project work – including supporting a major service review. You'll take responsibility for performance monitoring, audits, and budget management, making sure we maintain high standards across the board.
For further details, please review the Job Description and Person Specification
What you'll bring
You'll be a qualified, registered social worker with substantial experience as an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) – and ideally a Best Interest Assessor (BIA) too. You'll bring experience managing teams in local authority settings, and a strong understanding of what it takes to deliver safe and effective out-of-hours care.
You'll need to be flexible and calm under pressure, with the ability to lead teams through uncertainty and adapt to complex situations quickly. You'll also bring excellent communication and diplomacy skills, along with confidence using auditing systems and tools like Excel or business analytics software to monitor performance.
Most importantly, you'll bring the values and resilience needed to lead in this unique and high-impact area of adult social care.
Why join us
At RBKC, we're all in – investing in our people, our communities and our future.
This is a rewarding and rare opportunity to join a highly experienced and stable team that is committed to getting things right for residents. You'll work in a collaborative and supportive environment where your growth is encouraged and your contribution valued. You'll be supported by an experienced Service Manager and a strong admin team, with access to a wide range of training and development opportunities to shape your leadership journey.

Your leadership will help us deliver a service that's trusted, responsive and rooted in care.
